Shooting a Local league.

One again we are going heartily at this league I posted a little bit about last winter. We are now moving into week 5 of 10.

This year I am shooting a Savage 110 action with factory Accutrigger chambered in 6ARC with a Shilen 28" four groove bull barrel sitting in a Boyd's At-One Thumbhole and looking through an Athlon Argos 10-40X56 GEN2 SFP.

Again the first three weeks have been with Official IBS Hunter targets at 100,200 and 300yds. Week 4 was the first of our proprietary targets which is call the Cold Bore.

Cold Bore target has 3 sets of sub-targets. The first is the Cold Bore, which must be shot first as the name implies before any other shots. There is a large center and an outer circle. Breaking the bull earns 25 points, inside the circle is 10 points.

Then comes the 3 Bulls. One shot each scored same manner as cold bore only scores 20 and 10. From there are 3 All-or-Nothing targets. 5shots at each. 30 points each sub-target. Any one shot outside the target and it receives no score.

This year, using this new rifle I have shot the best scores I have ever shot the previous 2 years while using a 223.
Week 1; 191/200 @100yds
Week 2; 195/200 @ 200yds
Week 3; 182/200 @300yds
Week 4; 190/200 @100 yds

This is week 4 target I described above.

Week 5, Oh No. Drats!

Cross target, shot at 200yds. 5 shots at each sub-target starting from top to bottom, then right to left. Any shot breaking the perimeter line does not score. Any shot breaking the inner line scores the higher value.

Conditions at the start of this session were; 38*, complete overcast, direct headwind at about 13mph. Had rain and heavy fog early morning. So ground was wet.

Had a perfectly clear target to begin with, wind didn't seem to be much of a factor. Had a good round going in the first 2 subs, shooting where intended. Then sub on the right. Had the first 4 shots and feeling really good. Then the sky broke clear. Bight sun, blue sky, not a cloud to be seen.

Sun was now directly behind me and the mirage became horrendous. Washed out the target. In this now the 4th year I have never experienced a weather change like this before. One that took place this quickly.

At 300yds this week, 2 targets, 10 shots each. A Ground Hog and a Fish. This fish target is to be shot from the weak side. 10-9-8 rings.

Shot a 89 on the Dog and sadly a 46 on the fish.

Redemption of sorts for the cross and the fish. Shot at 100yds. So long as it breaks the circle it scores. Must hit the first to move to the second. Limit 20 shots.

Week 8; Shot at 200 yards. Squirrels
This is historically one of my weakest targets. Partially because I struggle to see the targets. In the past these were high gloss splatter targets and I would get a lot of reflection. Though this year generated my highest score on this target. The last round target, bottom left, I should have stopped and restarted because I just did not feel comfortable. But it was the Last Shot.

Week 8 25.jpg

Folks another season has come to an end. 10 Weeks went by quick. I've seen great improvement over last year when I was shooting a 223 bolt. Actually finished 8th overall out of 21 members this year. Top 4 shooters, they were only separated by 43 points.

Ended up getting really sick for a few weeks so I had to makeup week 9. Still didn't feel 100% when I shot these last 2 weeks but I was out of time as the season ended Sunday.

Would really like to thank everyone that may have followed along, hope you all enjoyed the format and some of the proprietary targets. Once again this was great fun with very good people.

Week 9 Occluded at 300yds.

Week 10, Groups at 200 and 300 yds. 5 shots at each target, best one scores.
200yd target was pure unadulterated plain Luck.
