shooting a 300 jarrett 3700FPS

I'm shooting a 30-8mm. Just starting to work up a 200 gr. load for elk hunting. I have Sie 200 MK to play with and Nos 200 AB to hopefully hunt with. After looking for 6 mo. managed to score 1 # of Retumbo. Hopefully it will all go together well enough to make something to hunt with. This is open for discussion, anybody got any ideas that would help.

We would try to hit them right at the rock/chuck junction. It would launch some of the smaller ones 30+ feet in the air. It's a site to see.

I took my 7-300wm the first trip this year with 162 Amax's doing 3220fps and it did quite well but not quite as good as my 30-8mm. I took the 30-8mm the second trip and blew parts of a chuck into a sage brush bush behind where the chuck was. I had a case separate after 4 or 5 rounds and ended it's day in the sun.

got my 300 jarrett finished and have been fire firming with 79grs of h1000 and a 168 sierra bullet 5 shots at 100 yds .430 and runs 3100FPS and my first load with 155 lupa is87grs RL25 ccimag primer 5 shot at 100yd .410 and runs 3500FPS very sweet to shoot went and shot 1000 this past weekend and clean bore third shot hit 12inch steel i think it is going to be nice THANKS for your input

All I can possibly say is the Jarrett is one bad dude! The 300 RUM takes about 10-12 gr more powder to accomplish the same velocity with a 155 Berger. I think that's called efficiency? Don't see much input, guess not many Jarrett fans in the crowd? Greg...

I'm sure I will get hammered for this but your friend is an idiot on an ego trip ! I have the same barrel configuration as you and I get 3500 fps pushing the load. It's not how fast but how accurate! Don't understand why everyone get wrapped up in how fast they can push a bullet. Never heard a deer say "Damn that was only 3500 fps". Get off the matcho trip and shoot a good safe, accurate load!! Just my $.02 worth!!! JVON

Who is the idiot on an ego trip here?

If his friends rifle shot well with that load, what is the issue?
Do you know if his friend has a fast barrel, a long freebore, longer length, a stiff action, different powder lot?
If you are going to throw criticism, how about some reasons to back it up?

I just got a 300 Jarrett a month or so. I'm shooting 175gr Barnes LRXs. I haven't settled on a load yet or shot over a chrony, but I did a ladder test at 300 yards and got freakishly good results.

I bought a bunch of Nosler 8mm Mag brass intending to fireform, but ended up biting the bullet and buying 300 Jarrett brass direct from Jarrett. It was pricey as you'd imagine it to be, but no fireforming.

I returned most of the Nosler brass, but still have 1 box (I opened it) of that 8mm Nosler brass (25), and bunch of other brass that came with the rifle if you're interested.

I suppose I'm the idiot on the ego trip. No offence taken by the way. No idea if the barrel is a fast one, but I guess it is by the speeds. 17 min up from 100 yd zero to a grand. SY&G rifle Kreiger barrel Stiller Python in a SY&G Robertson F-class stock. It's one bad dude. By the way it will press punch 1/2" a-2 plate @ 600 yds also pretty dang hard on other steel targets we have out to 1000 yds.
Have a great day. Big Greg
