Shooter's Choice and Kroil

I remember a lot of the benchresters used a mixture of these two for cleaning. I am thinking it was 2/3 SC and 1/3 Kroil. Is this correct?

I don't know that there is a specific formula. I mix mine 50/50.

Mike

Is the primary reason for the mixture, to be good at removing stubborn carbon fouling ? If so, is it 50/50 or_______ ?

Some time ago, I had a conversation with Joe Ventimiglia, President of Ventco, Inc., and he said that they had a chemist check to see what the optimum mix would be for the use of Kroil in their solvent. They found that you can use one 16 oz. bottle of Shooters Choice with one 8 oz. can of Kroil for the best mix. They found that you do not want to use anything stronger than this mix because the Kroil would start to dilute the solvent package to the point that it would start losing some of its effectiveness.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

When using this mixture do you flush the bore with alcohol or anything else? Or just a few patches?
I don't shoot any competiton but am always looking for a cleaner barrel.
Thanks

Thanks Art.............That's some good reading. I put Speedys web-site in my favorites, so I can refer back to it.

Kind of discouraging to hear his opinions on bore guides though.
I'm using a Sinclair on my first and only custom barrel,17Rem. Pac-Nor Super Match) and according to him I have already ruined it. I sure hope that's not true. I used the break-in directions and Witches brew supplied by Pac-Nor. It shoots way beyond my capabilities so far.
I'll upgrade my bore guides as funds permitt starting with the 17Rem. since I have two 700 actions in this caliber.

Live and learn.
Thanks Again

RePete,

Just send that "ruined" barrel to me! I'll even pay the shipping charges :)

Take what you read in many "gurus" websites with a grain of salt.

I have read that the Lucas bore guides are 1 of the best, because of the insert guide.,to keep your cleaning rod perfectly centered in the bore) I also use Sinclairs, but believe if you take your time, you won't damage the throat or the bore.

Billy.............The barrel's on the way.:D

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I understand Speedy's concern. He is wanting people to take care of a rifle he built and will be called bad names when it goes bad because of improper cleaning.
I have been using the Sinclair and EJS guides for a long time and even see most of the BR guys at our range using them so no knee-jerk reactions will be forthcoming,Billy). I know the Lucas are better and often thought about upgrading but never have,Yet).
It has taken me 57 years to get my first good barrel so I will at least get the Lucas for my 17's.
I'm making up for lost time with good barrels though as Pac-Nor is fitting a 17FB barrel on a CZ action for me as we speak. Good barrels are like Potato Chips it seems.

I love Potato Chips!!!!
