Best Metal Treatment/Preservative???

I've been a Kroil user for years, even mix it with Shooter's Choice for barrel cleaning.

Now, knowing that, does anyone have any information regarding the use of Boeshield? I've gotten some high reviews from a friend, and was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this stuff.

It seems fairly inexpensive too.

Look at Corrosion-X. It's used in the aviation industry (amongst others) to protect bare aluminum & electronics. If my memory serves me correctly, Boeshield leaves a waxy finish if that's your goal. Hog

Waxy finish?? Yep, the website does say that....wouldn't mind on the exterior of my Wilson dies! 8)

I've been using silicone spray for those dies prior, and its been working. How thin of a waxy finish is the question....when the rain starts here, during elk season (like now), might not be a bad thing....think I'll stick with Kroil on the inside....

Thanks for the info on CorrosionX, I'll check it out!

On the dies, guns, etc, try EEZox. Best peformer in tests in the link that I provided. Made in Ohio.

I've used different things over the years. Eezox is the best by far.

The "Best" depends a lot on the conditions. I've been using Break-Free for more years than I care remember with zero issues even after my son has them out in the rain. ( I don't hunt in such horrid conditions ;D) In fact after he had one of my Savages in a down pour and the only part that showed sign of rust was the sear torsion spring a week later. The BF works great for "MY" purposes.

I suggest trying them all. Keep what works the best for you then sell the others at a yard sale!

I lived on a small river when I was a bachelor and rust was trouble with the rifles. When I did have a problem with anything that wasn't being used enough, I would mix STP with gun oil to thin it and put a coat on the area with the problem. After a day or two the rust would wipe off. There is some serious detergent in the STP.

Yes, Boeshield does leave a residue. I've used it for years and like it. What I use the most though is Eezox. It works as advertised is all I can say. Will metal still rust if left in the rain? Yes it will, but I have found that the rust wipes off and does not pit. No I don't leave my rifles in the rain :). I put it on some other stuff too. I really like it on my dies inside and out.

I wish Midway still carried it, but a search will lead you where you need to go. I personally like the smell even.

I DO leave mine in the rain!!! But I'm usually holding them at the time....supposed to rain tomorrow, and its Elk Season....so what's the choice????
