:eek:Things are not looking good if you want to order a product from 7 countries:

These countries will no longer ship most packages to the United States​

The issue that's arising is that many foreign postal services are now saying they will not ship many packages to the United States. In fact, here are the postal services that have currently announced that shipment of most packages to the U.S. is being paused.

  • Germany
  • Denmark
  • Sweden
  • Italy
  • France
  • Austria
  • United Kingdom

"NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. consumers have gotten used to shopping the world without paying customs duties on the international packages they receive from big e-commerce companies like Shein and Temu, specialty shops and businesses that sell goods through online marketplaces like Amazon, Etsy and eBay.

That era is about to end. On Friday, the United States plans to eliminate a tariff exemption that allowed imports worth $800 or less to enter the country tax-free. With the sundowning of the “de minimis” exemption, such shipments will incur charges that range from 10% to 50% of their declared value or, for the next six months, a flat duty of $80 to $200 per parcel."

The key word is paused. It's solely until the shippers learn what import rate will replace the $800 value exemption and what regulations apply. Until they have that information, accepting a consignment would be like writing a blank cheque at their expense, as they are responsible for paying taxes/tariffs at the border port.

I wish we'd had the equivalent of $800 US exemption in the other direction. As in everything else, our customs and tax people have always screwed us for the value of every import other than modest value personal gifts.

As I said above: "Assuming those shippers are unaffected" appears from your post DHL is affected.

I suspect we're all going to be paying a lot more for many of the items we routinely purchase, but only time will tell how much and for how long. I'm a big fan of buy USA made products, but the reality is those companies in many cases get much of what they need to produce their products from other countries and they are not going to eat those increased costs long term or even short term for some. Everyone is just going to need to adapt to what's thrown at us, but that's no different than it ever was. It's always been that way.

Tariffs can be a disaster if done incorrectly. It's called protectionism. Understandably all businesses are going to be against this because, even if the tariffs work, they are at risk. The left will say Trump is wrong on everything including his preferred toilet paper. The media are idiots. They come up with their own theoretical problems then claim to have solved their made up idiotic problems for us. We shouldn't tariff everything until the end of time but then again we should not stand back and not tariff anything until the end of time.
