Shipping loaded Ammo question?

What is the skinny on shipping loaded ammo by Fedex or UPS? I've read everything between just writing ORM-D with a sharpie on the box to formal training under 49 CFR 172.

I use an ORMD lable downloaded from the 'net and have UPS pick the package up at my house. Taking a package in with loaded ammo to the counter takes the risk that the person behind the counter has no idea of UPS rules and most oftentimes leads to frustration. The drivers know what they can deliver and pickup, I have never had a problem with a pickup at my house.

Yeah... those counter imbeciles made me pay for Signature confirmation because it was live ammo.

I'm like..."I get ammo left on my porch all the time". :

I second what (wbrown) said. I just shipped 2000rds from my shop in LA, to CO., for a dog hunt. Because the airlines will only let you bring 11lbs of ammo.
Had no issues with UPS at all.

A good idea is to also find the phone number for the HAZ MAT dept. for your shipper of choice.

I`ve had the counter person refuse to ship.....you give them the number,have them call,all went well for me and the counter person learned something....

Last year i ordered some things from Midway including TWO box's of Black Hills 223 red box ammo saw nothing on box like is being talked about just normal shipping info no Has/mat charge.

Having the HAZ MAT phone number was just for CYA. Just incase the counter "person", gave us a load of crap.
There is no HAZMAT on shipping ammo. Just powder and primers, like when we order X amount...

We shipped 2k rds of BlkHills Blue, and they never batted an eye.
