Shipping gun stocks ,Surprise !

Well we shouldn't pick on the post much they have great service. Just for a example. I was buying some brass from rockhound78. Mailed the payment on I think June the th5 we'll he got it on Dec 24 no kidding true story . With service like that you got to love it haha

They also have a minimum weight for box dimensions. Say your box is 36x8x8 and weighs 5 pounds. They have a minimum charge of say 27 pounds for that size box.

Shipping is getting to be pain in the ass
Having been in manufacturing business and shipping I can tell you that weight verses volume is industry standard and one cubic meter is calculated to be 250Kg…
Prices charged in $US…
A box of feathers, you pay by volume as that is the greater, a box of anvils, you pay by weight… Simple economics of shipping.

For quite a while USPS would ship based on weight alone until you got to oversize pkg. Back then oversize was quite large, IIRC over 3 or 4 cubic ft. They also had a large flat rate box that you could stuff with anything you wanted. One guy in our PO area sold used car parts and could fit two alternators in the box.

Then the rules all changed to what they are today. Smaller limits and no more large size flat rate box. Our shipping costs almost doubled because many of our packages changed from std to oversize. Glad we don't have the business these days.

USPS used to have an $11 flat rate (medium) box. A friend up in Alaska was a logger. He got hurt, and had to give it up. He went to casting and sizing/lubing bullets and shipping all over the US. 65lbs would fit in that box. I quit casting for the price he had. My Mail Carrier used to cuss me every month when he made that 75 feet trip up my driveway.

Stocks are considered gun parts and individuals can’t ship through UPS. Sure you could lie but then good luck if anything happens.

Alex needs the complete rifle to do the bedding and sanding work. Bc'z just wants the stock for the finish coat.
Why not have it go from Alex to Brett? Or did I miss a step?
Alex needs to finish the inleting, bed V-block and action.
Alex will send me the stock with all parts minus barreled action.

"Everyone should read this part twice."

Once it's finished I'll wrap stock in shop towels to protect finish from plastic.
I'll bubble wrap stock to fit snugly into a 36x5x5 box, this box is bubble wrapped and stuffed into a 40x6x6 box.
I use Pirate Ship to print my lables, I write all my Fopen & heavy fill McMillan @ 9#
FTR & Light fill McMillan @ 7.5#
Light BR stocks @ 6#
3 day priority UPS shipping across country is running right at $34 currently, I've done next day across country for $75.

Something to pay attention to when purchasing lables is shipping time versus cost.
Example....
Me being in Oregon UPS ground is cheapest option to ship in all western states. Wa. Or. Ca. Nv. Ut. Id. Mt. and still arrive at destination in 3 days, all other states I purchase a 3 day priority lable.
