Shipping Firearms

I use USPS, include a copy of my drivers license and ship to an FFL, now, saw a website the other day that said you could ship a long gun from person to person, how would it ever get "into the system" if we did that? So for now I'll use my way. I shipped 2 comp rifles last week (Jan 8th) both said they would be delivered on the 12th, one going to San Antonia made it the 13th, one to VA still show at my post office, I've spent 2 days tracking it and the post master called me yesterday and said he'd know by Monday, my fingers are crossed and yes it is insured.

Rifles can go from an individual to an FFL through USPS.
Pistols have to go FFL to FFL. FFL can use whichever carrier they have set up a proper account with.

DOJ caved on a law suite last week. They are in the process of re writing the USPS gun shipping RULES not law to let citizens ship handgun through them now. They did not want a case law to be made that says handgun shipping through usps was un constitutional for un licensed people. .

What options are left to ship a firearm legally ?
youve got all good info so far that should get you there. Once i took a long gun to local PO to ship and they told me it wasnt legal— i told them it was and they should check. they did and found out it was legal so dont let people at the PO tell you its not legal.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Want to lose it. Ship via usps.

UPS will ship. You need to arrange for a pickup at your home or business.
Nope

"UPS accepts packages containing Firearm Products for shipment only as a contractual service and only from Shippers who are licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors (as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code) to authorized recipients, as outlined in an approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products.

The shipper must comply with and must ensure that each shipment containing Firearms or Firearm Parts complies with all UPS requirements as well as all federal, state and local laws applicable to the shipper, recipient, and package, including, without limitation, age restrictions."

I’m an FFL and I don’t charge anyone that i shoot with to send or receive guns (sending must be to another FFL). So find someone you shoot with at the range and ask them. You would be surprised how nice people are.

Now that I'm able to actually type on a keyboard.

FedEx and UPS both changed their rules over the past few years. You need to have an FFL and you need to have an account with them. UPS specifically requires you to even have an account just for firearms, parts and accessories. The only exception is for scopes.
I did ask them if an 03 is good enough, and from what I've found, I think it is, but you still have to call and setup the shipping account and tie your FFL to it.

It's not illegal, but if you need to file a claim, then you can forget about UPS/FedEx paying out on insurance.

shipmygun.com is just so easy. You're using Bud's Gun's FFL. You're paying them to print a label for you, but it's on their FFL. And the rates are super cheap.

Otherwise, get friendly with a local FFL in your town and use them to ship.

I just take any firearms to my lgs and have them go UPS. They have a lot more clout if any issues arise than I do.
