Shipping an action UPS

Machined parts require no notification. You can insure machined parts for the correct value. Assembled parts that create an operational device is something wholly different.

Stay out of the weeds....look at the whole picture....What would a reasonable and ordinary person define the item which you are shipping?

Steve :)

I did. The original poster asked how he should interpret the UPS (United Parcel Service) language. The UPS language is not federal law. There is no federal law that says he has to declare what he is shipping is a firearm. UPS language discusses concealable weapons and handguns. UPS does not want to ship handguns due to the liability and possibilities that exist if said package is lost in transit. The original poster was shipping an action from a rifle to a licensed gunsmith. Even UPS verbiage does not require a declaration for this. I have never declared to UPS. or Fed-Ex for that matter, that my package contained a firearm unless they specifically asked.

My post was only to clarify that no FFL is required to send rifle to gunsmith.

I always declare what I am shipping at UPS and have never had a problem. In the description box I put "rifle". I have transferred to FFL's around 50 rifles this year alone with no problems. I will not go to USPS because their workers have no idea of their own requirements including supervisors.

I do insure everything to its current value.

USPS personnel are idiots. I took a flat-rate box of bullets in to the post office to ship it. The woman (who has been there for years) said that it was heavy and I told her it was bullets. She told me that I could not ship them. I told her that I can and they were not loaded ammo. She finally relented, but is obviously clueless and living in this area, that is amazing for as long as she has been there.

Have had similar dealings with local ups stores around here, almost anything gun related they shut there mind off and say no. My biggest headache was trying to ship a rifle scope and was told no. Well when u insure it, it should have a proper discription.
So went to the next store and shipped and insured a astronomy scope with no questions asked. I strongly dislike ignorent people
