Shipping Ammo?

Have any of you found a simple way to ship ammo? Private party to private party situation.

Appreciate any help. Dick

Last time I shipped ammo I used UPS, just be sure to have the ORM-D label visible on all sides of the box.

Thanks Longone -

In looking at the UPS site, looks like you have to have a pickup account set up with them as well as the signed "Transportation of H M" agreement in place. Is that correct?

Thanks again

i dont know if where different or something but the last time i ordered ammo online it was shipped to me in a standard looking box and there wasnt any Haz-Mat

UPS will or at least did allow individuals to ship ammo ground service long as it was less than 50 cal small arms ammo. There was no special H M label other than the ORM-D labels. You can not ship through any of their "stores", all ammo shipments must either be picked up or brought to a UPS terminal. Maybe to better understand any changes you might want to call their 800 number to be sure all your ducks are in a row before you speak with their uninformed counter people.

As others have said, you MUST have a the Markings "ORM-D, Cartridges, Small Arms" on the box. This does not have to be a stick-on label. Legible block printing with a line around it will suffice. However, here is a label you can copy, print out, and stick on the box.

The ammo I've received usually only has ONE or two stickers. I don't know of any requirement to have a sticker on every surface.

Thanks a heck of a lot, guys. Nobody home at the UPS desk til Monday, but hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it then.

I collect cartridges and all collectors use UPS Ground. No UPS AIR. We ship cartridges bigger than .50 so I don't know where that information came from.

Boxes must be marked with the ORM D sticker. Declare them as "cartridges." Don't make up some fancy names to try and disguise the contents.

Many collectors create their own on-line account so that they can print their own labels. Then all you have to do is call the brown truck to pick it up. Otherwise go to the regular UPS facility. UPS stores are not supposed to take ORM D packages but if you live in a small town some of them will do it as a courtesy.

Don't try USPS except for empty cases or loose bullets. It's not worth the risk, although hundreds of guys do it.

Now, shipments to and from Canada are a completely different thing. Best to ask the governments at both ends before shipping anything.

Overseas is inert only. No live ammo. Don't even ask. And each country has a different definition of "inert" so be careful there.

If you live in a big city be prepared to have UPS and/or USPS people question everything you do and offer all kinds of restrictions that are not real. You can ask them to get out the official regulations and read the rules for themselves but it's usually easier to drive to another facility where people actually know what they are doing.
