Shipping a rifle?

That may be the policy of the receiving FFL but there's no law that prevents it. I don't understand why some FFL's won't accept it from an individual but that's on them.
It could very well be their policy. I know a lot of dealer's who seem to turn their policy into their law. I know where I live you can't send a firearm UPS of FedEx unless it's FFL to FFL. On the other hand I know of a UPS hub a few miles away that I think they would be fine with anything.

I do know it's tightened up a lot from several years ago. An overabundance of caution maybe, but from my own experience I don't see it as a huge roadblock---yet.

No where are you supposed to be able to send a firearm or even parts by UPS or FedEx due to the change in their policy about 3 years ago but some don’t follow their own policy.

You can use shipmygun.com and send it legally through UPS.

I just sent my bolt to X-Caliber to have a new barrel headspace set to it. At the UPS store I told them it was a machine part when they asked if it was a gun or ammo. When I picked up my new to me FTR rifle a couple of years ago, Doan marked machine parts on the box and it was broken down (barreled action, stock, trigger, scope and very well padded). Did not look like a rifle at all in a short, wide box.

As far as I know at least in the last 12 months you can ship (USPS) to an FFL gunsmith and if it is your rifle they can ship it back to your legal residence address.

That's been my experience. IF it is sent in for repairs to a smith no FFL needed. Took it to the PO and had to declare. But it's been a minute.

It doesnt take very many packages to save enough by not buying insurance to self insure. They are going to say poor packaging on any damage claims and they are usually right. I have seen some terrible packing.

How this has got confusing to the average person: Nearly all manufacturers and some large gunsmith shops won't ship directly back to the individual who sent it in for repair. For "liability" reasons, they will only return it to a FFL dealer. Some years ago, they only required it be sent back through your FFL if they had to replace it with a different firearm.

I recently had a local LGS ship a rifle for me. They packaged it and shipped it for $75. I was happy to pay them for the service. It eliminated a lot of worry and hassle for me and the rifle arrived to the receiving FFL with no added stress.

I can add a oh ! shit.
I have a UPS Account tried to print a Label and typed Rifle in contents line Red Flagged .
It was a FFL address ship to. I was not able to print ...
FFL Account can print a label....

UPS Insurance they state you must have a bill of sale or invoice for the item if lost ? machine parts, good luck.

Went to Fed-X they told me they no longer will add Insurance to a package ????

FFL to FFL I had a FFL The Gun must go in your Book by Law ?? Record of Guns and who has it....

For something of great value/importance the single best was is USPS registered/ insured, which, when last used don’t need to ID other than zero hazardous.
Biggest pain, must be wrapped in brown paper w brown tape and takes a bit longer.cost with insurance is cheap….safe because every single person that touches it must sign.
The default method high dollar guns get shipped big dealers have told me…..used it several times.
