Shilen Prefit barrels.

Does anyone have data on the difference in result between...

Midway Shilen prefit Savage 223 Rem Wylde chamber , Varmit contour , 26", 1-8 vs having a barrel fit to a particular action.

No data, but a friend split the difference, he ordered a custom reamer and had Shilen chamber a prefit for him with it, in a select match. He likes it a lot. The other leg is a custom one piece die from Hornady, very straight ammo.

Although I have nothing to compare it against I'm very pleased with my Shilen Pre-fit barrel for my Savage 12F. It's a 6BR Stainless select match with a 1 in 8 with 4 groove ratchet rifling. Here's a 200yd 5 shot group shot with this barrel. (108 gr Berger, Lee press, redding dies)

I have a Shilen (from Midway) 6BR 8 twist on a BVSS action and it shoots very well, 1/2MOA or better "real world." I'd buy another one for sure. OTOH I had a .223 Wylde from Criterion/NSS that shot just as well and might be a little cheaper. Don't think you can go wrong with either brand.

I replaced my .308 Winchester 700 barrel with a Shilen .243 1 in 10 twist bull 26" varmint barrel and had my local gunsmith chamber it for my .243.
I am very happy with the results.
I also replace the synthetic stock with a Boyd laminated thumb-hole stock.
This setup is accurate and comfortable to shoot bench rest rifle with.
