Shilen match grade VS Select match grade??

I am gearing up for a new varmint rifle for the fall coyote season. I am looking at a couple shilen 6mm barrel blanks for a 6BR or a dasher. Anyway one barrel is a match grade and the other is a select match grade. There is about $60 difference in price. Should i go with the higher grade of barrel or do you think the standard match grade will be ok? Both barrels are stainless 10 twist 6mm blanks. thanks guys, Lee

I sleep just fine. Money is the issue here. If i dont need to spend the extra 60 bucks i can save it or upgrade my trigger, or something. I need to know if there is any real gain in accuracy with one over the other? thanks Lee

Lee: The lower cost Shilen barrel may not be hand-lapped, and that would be the big deciding factor for me. If that's the case, I would definatly go for the higher cost. Hand lapping usually adds about $40 to the cost of the barrel, but well worth it, to me. Why not contact Shilen and put the question to them: 'Just what will I get for the extra $60'?

As I understand your post-this is for a hunting rig? I have spoken to Shilen and they state that the difference is guaranteed straightness of the barrel. Since you are not expecting the rifle to shoot 'em all in the same hole- I'd save the money!!!!

Lee, I have both they were both chambered at the same time with the same reamer buy the same smith, I can't tell ten cents difference in the way they shoot or clean up.

How do you figure that Obtunded? We are very fortunate to have a barrelmaker offer other than select match. I'll guarantee you that you couldn't tell the difference if you didn't know which one you had. Why pay $60-$100 extra for a hunting barrel that you can't tell the difference.

I have two standard Shilens - one #3 in .30-06 that shoots 3/4 moa out to 400 yds easily and one #2 in 6.5x55 that shoots cloverleafs all day. Hunting loads and bullets.
Save the money, let the benchrest guys have the Selects.
