Shilen action changing bolt faces

Hi, this is my first post on this forum. I've been mostly shooting pistols ad ARs and am new to bolts.

I'm thinking of getting one of Shilen's barreled actions (based on a Stiller Predator), which uses Savage drop in barrels.

To maximize the different calibers I may want to use in the future, I am going to get a long action with a Magnum bolt face. I initially want to build a 300 Winmag.
If I wanted to swap to a 308 Winchester, I just need to change the bolt face and barrel, is this correct? If so would it be possible to purchase a complete bolt from somewhere?

Swapping bolts once they are set up for a action is a ongoing thing, and you can buy a bolt from the same place the action comes from..

Yes. assuming you are shooting single shot, that is all you need to change. You'll have to set the headspace (gunsmith work). Changing barrels on a bolt gun isn't as easy as changing the barrel on an AR. 308 fits in a short action but can be fired in a long action and often is. You'll probably want to get a 308 bolt from stiller.

However, More likely you won't want to retire your 300 win mag and you'll build your 308 on a new action. As you become more experienced with bolt guns you may want to try different but similar calibers. E.G., various 7mm calibers are competing with 308 for target rifles today. Bolt action rifles tend to reproduce in the gun safe. DAMHIK.

Though the new Shilen actions use a Savage type bolt, I don't think they recommend changing bolt heads. You might call them.

And your point is Mr Guffey?

Point, there is an outside chance there are some reading this information that does not have a clue so I posted a link. Seems there were questions about the Remington, Savage and Shilen, bolt faces and barrel nuts. Then there was 'do they?' and 'don't 'they?'

The Shilen receiver uses a Remington footprint and Remington type trigger. It will use Savage barrels. Shilen does not recommend changing the bolt heads, though they are similar to the Savage.
