The crew that witnessed the shot.
Shayne is still sizing the up conditions
while he is suckering everyone in

The Target:
A small triangular baseball size rock is glistening in the
bright sun, a perfect target in the dirt pile at 1428 yards.
conditions were about perfect. Wind zero to less than five mph.
First project was to get first time shooter Michael Dunham into
the 1400 yd club. He mastered Kruzan's 22 BR at 300 yards an hour
earlier down at the Dome.
To zero the 284 I sent the first shot within 3 feet of the rock.
A couple of clicks and my next two shots were within inches of the rock.
Now the rifle is ready for Michael.
His previous long shot was 300 yards.
I give him the Jewell trigger 101 lesson and he is ready.
I served as the sun blocker holding a towel to block the sun out of his eyes.
He takes 3 three shots which were all within inches of the rock.
Next it is time for the Old Veteran John Kruzan to extend his experience
to 1400 yards. John has killed Prarie Dogs with his Dasher out to
around 1200 but that is as far as he has spit lead. His three shots were
extremel close to the rock.
Next Ole JuneBug sat under the 284 and the winds started to gust just a
hair. It needed a click or two of windage and the Bug's 4 th shot was
within inches. Now the gun is zeroed for the Ole Showboat Shayne.
Having only started shooting long last November, Shayne has amazed me
with his long range hits out to 1800 yards.
Shayne has been sizing up the conditions and gets out of his truck and
makes his way to the firing line.
I am spotting and Junebug is the sun block.
First shot is maybe 6 inches high.
Second shot maybe a foot short.
I coach and tell him since he hit both high and low with his first two shots to
hold the same hold for the next shot because it is shooting the classic
shot-gun pattern which means you will land one in the middle eventually.
Third shot is on the way and the splash of dust is within a couple or three inches.
Fourth shot--pieces of rock fly out of the dust SPLASH.
I jump up and shout "he hit the Da## thing" and spike my ear muffs
into the ground. Everyone is Jubilant.
The sun was so bright a fresh break was gleaming in the sunlight
from the broken rock.
I was proud to be Carlos Kris Halliburton's spotter!!!

The fun-meter was pegged!!!
Another best of times, Good friends, good guns, memories always
