One shot with the 284 win on chuckie is all it took.
Two warmups on the plate and first shot was a center
chest pop and the 180 Hybrid put chuckie back hard
at 800 yards.

First time I ever met Harold face to face. His girl friend Julie
is a pharmacist for the company I work for. We have
corresponded by text and phone for a few months about
getting together.
I told him to come at 6 p.m after the mid-ninety temps
and high humidity cooled somewhat. I met him at the
Stagecoach and we went to the Dome.
I knew he had experience when he pulled out his hand held
pocket device for ballistic info and holdover.
He brought a 308 Salvage with a muzzle brake that you could
twist and close off the brake if need be. I had never seen one
of those. He had a new scope on and had the gun shop bore
sight it for him. Of course his first shot was not on paper and
then I bore sighted it by my eye and I told him where to hold
and the next shot was on paper.
we dialed her in and he was one inch high. The next shot went
into the same hole. He was getting ready for his third shot
when a fly landed just right of his bullseye.
Since he had two shots in the same hole and told him to take the
fly out and he did.
Third shot through same hole.

3 shots on bullseye #5

He hit at 300 easily and was using his ballistic device to calculate which
mil dot to hold.
Then at 600 he was right on.
Next was 800 and he hit very close to the 12 inch plate but did not land one.
He was shooting a off the shelf 147 or 145 gr load. I believe it would shoot even better
with the 168 SMK or Fed. Gold Cup Match fodder.

Darkness was approaching so I mentioned going up on old Rock Top for
a bit of a stretch while we could see the dust splash. He said let's do it.

We set up on top at the 1428 yd line to shoot the pond bank dirt pile.
Absolutely perfect. No wind.
The last time the 284 was touched was the Sunday after the BBB when
Shane, Charlie, Kermitt, Tucker, and Elijah came down. The scope should
be zeroed for the distance but it had been a month and the temps were
much hotter now.
I took the first warm up shot at 1428 yds. and the splash was within 12 inches
of where I held which I thought was unbelievable. I dialed a couple clicks
in and the impact of the next 4 shots were within inches of each other.

Now for Harold to qualify 1400.

He crawled under the Viper SS and I had to give him the Jewell trigger
lesson 101. He closed the bolt on an empty chamber and I told him to
just find the trigger and sure enough he set the trigger off and did not even
know it. Second try he passed the test.

Now he is ready just as a cow decided to come to the pond and stopped
on the bank right in the line of fire and she was there for the night.
The 1428 yd attempt will have to wait another day.

So, we moved back to 800 for his chance to quailify at least at 800.
He took two sighters on the big plate, I dialed it in and told him to
hold center of Chuckie's chest and the big hog went down extremely hard
with a center mass chest hit from a 180 gr hybrid.

All in all a wonderful first encounter with Harold n' Tn.

He said he would be back and he texted me the next day that he took Ms. Julie
to see the view from Rocky Top!

Great story and am amazed the savage shooting the ammo he had did so well.

PS: I love the dome story's and keep them up!!!!
