Shattered scope with compressed air

Do NOT use high-pressure compressed air from cans (such as found in office supply stores). They can, and have, been known to destroy lens coatings.
Very interesting twist, that. They say "destroy" rather than "damage" which suggests a chemical attack rather than mechanical (e.g. stirring up abrasive particles). We know there's more than just air in
"canned air" but I'd have assumed it was inert WRT something like an advanced lens coating.

Compressed air cans turned upside down is a common paintless dent removal technique for shrinking metal. It super cools the steel and pop some dents. Not surprised it would pop glass as well. That makes you want to cry.

The stuff I used to use (sold as a "spray freeze"; I'm relatively sure that canned air was the same thing without a pickup tube in the can) was actually a freon variant. I assume you can't sell that stuff in the US anymore.

Common duster gases include hydrocarbons, like butane, propane, and isobutane, and fluorocarbons like 1,1-difluoroethane, 1,1,1-trifluoroethane, or 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane which are used because of their lower flammability.

Global warming[edit]

Difluoroethane (HFC-152a), trifluoroethane (HFC-143a), and completely non-flammable tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) are potent greenhouse gases. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the global warming potential (GWP) of HFC-152a, HFC-143a, and HFC-134a are 124, 4470, and 1430, respectively.[7] GWP refers to global warming effect in comparison to CO2 for unit mass. 1 kg of HFC-152a is equivalent to 124 kg of CO2[8]

Ozone layer depletion[edit]

Gas dusters sold in many countries are ozone safe as they use "zero ODP" (zero ozone depletion potential) gases; tetrafluoroethane, for example, has insignificant ODP. This is a separate issue from the global warming concern.

Dig deep into what undergirds what appears to be the basic physics of GWP and "greenhouse gases" and you'll find a house of cards founded on entrails of owl. The UN IPCC is a political organization, and any scientific "findings" issuing therefrom are predetermined. Worse, when IPCC says "very likely" the so-called "journalists" translate it "97% agree the outcome is certain".

Not my point. I was talking about the likelihood of various chemicals eating lens coatings, then and now.

Shattered a glass pan I just took out of the oven fully of rib roast. It was fall the kids wanted to eat out on the porch, the metal table was cold enough that when the warm glass touched it, it shattered. Same principle I guess. Good video to share, never even thought about something like that.

What type of glass pan was that? Was it genuine Pyrex® or "other"?

I honestly don’t remember, it’s been years, it was thick and tinted, couldn’t tell you if it was Pyrex or not though. Probably not knowing how my tightwad brain works.
