Several action, caliber questions

If you were seeing your bullets blown 4-5 feet at 500 then you were seeing 15+ MPH winds. A 6BR would still be a couple of feet in that kind of wind.
Seems like I remember a weather site claiming 19, so sounds about right
The key info has been left out. You have never mentioned if you load or not. If you don't load the 6BR and all of the PPC options are out. from what i heard the 223 has not got the long range you need so the suggestions for 222 and 221 fireball are out as they have less range than the 223. A good 22-250 with a twist fast enough for longer bullets than common. If you load a 6BR would be a good one. 220 swift, 22 BR . Making you e own ammo is the key. And buying a factory rifle may be counter productive. Ive had better luck buying a used rifle and have a match grade barrel installed by some one that knows how to do it. Probably not the guy at the gun shop/pawn shop down the road.
I do currently load for 7 or 8 pistol calibers and a dozen or so rifle calibers. I don't currently own or load for any 6mm's, so I'll need dies and such, but I have everything else, Arbor press included. I have a goodly supply of BR primers in large and small, plus a good selection of powder.

RIGHT NOW there is a 6bra on the sale board! Custom Kodiak action, 2 barrels, nice stock! The guy has dropped it to $1700. That is a deal!!! Buy the durn thing before I do!
Like I said, deals pop up from time to time!
I saw that, but neither barrels are great for what I need, so I'd still need to add several hundred for a new barrel.

Replace your 223 barrel with an 8 twist so you can shoot plentiful 70-80gr bullets and it will perform better than your ability to gauge the wind and shoot varying field setups and conditions. If your serious about longer range go 7 twist for 90gr.

I know of a ruger mk2 in .220 swift, complete set up, new barrel, scoped, ready to go that does great at 500+ yards with 55g bullets.

My own rig is a Savage action in a boyds stock, 24" ss bbl, 1/14" tw, .223. I only run 50g bullets and have no issue to 500 yards and I'm shooting in breeze all the time from 5 to 20mph. Never have I had a 50g bullet blown 4to5 feet off target
I know how to shoot in wind when needed.
My other rig is on a Savage action, 22" heavy ss bbl, 6x6.8 and run a 70g bullet @ 3000fps from 600 to 900 yards. This is the 6.8spc direct necked to 6mm only.
Sounds like you'd be better off with a 6mm variation though.
