setup recommendations?

Hi,

New to the forum.
I have a Remington 700 VSF in .308 that I would like to shoot out to 1,000 yards.
I have a 20x Super Sniper scope that I want to mount on it.
Will I need an elevated scope base?
Should I go with a single piece base?
What height rings will work best for the 42mm objective?

Thanks,
Oliver

With that scope... you won't need a canted scope base, as the scope should have plenty of adjustment range, the 10x and 16x have something like 110+ MOA) to get the job done. Still, it's nice to be able to have the scope as close to mechanical center at the range where you plan on doing most of your shooting, so a 15 or 20 minute base wouldn't hurt.

If you don't go w/ a canted base, I'd say get whatever you can locally inexpensively and get shooting.

If you do want to go w/ a canted base... I like Warne products; their 20 MOA one piece canted rail sits relatively low and is reasonably prices, as are their Tactical scope rings. Medium height rings will work fine for that scope on that base.

Another option that may be even more economical and still very effective would be to get some two piece Burris steel Weaver style bases, and then some medium height Burris Signature Zee rings w/ the inserts. You can go w/ the 0/0 inserts for starters, and move to the +10/-10 inserts later if you need them. I don't particularly like the ring body that Burris uses for their rings, others seem to like them a lot) but that doesn't necessarily mean they don't work.

Hope this helps! Get that gun set up and get out shooting!
