Setting a pressure ring bullet

Are you talking about seating a bullet that has an oversize pressure ring?
If so, I don't do anything differently in the seating process except during testing I am more particular about neck tension. The most important thing IMO is to recognize larger pressure rings mean increased pressure and your powder charges need adjusted accordingly.

What bullets have the ring, are they built like that by design?
As an example, I have some BIB 6.5 caliber 135 grain bullets with a large pressure ring.
They are marked .2645 so the pressure ring is an extra .0005 in diameter. It really isn't noticeable just looking at the bullet.
These are long range bullets and have a boat tail.

Cutting Edge Bullets have a bore rider that they call a seal tight band and advise keeping it above the brass. Their bullets shoot best right at the lands to -0.005" and 2nd best from -0.020 to -0.025" per their advice that comes with the bullets.CEB.PNG

Boat tails have the ring at base of bearing surface/boattail junction. Most are close to
.0005 larger than bullet diameter. I have seen some at .0007 larger.

I have about .001 bullet tension in the case mouth , will that damage the pressure ring or should that be less ? Brass has been annealed .

Just pretend that the pressure ring isn’t there. There’s no special care needed just because it has a pressure ring. Just seat the bullet like you would any bullet. Test bushing sizes like you would for any bullet. Carry on!

With a pressure ring ?
His 30cal 118’s have a small pressure ring. Off the top of my head it’s typical to see a pressure ring .0002-.0005” over shank diameter on the various BR flat base bullets.

See some of the published BIB specs:
