Set me up for rookie Fclass hardware

Is that laying down with a bag or walking around a course? My varmint AR is a 15 pound pig iron not good for running around with.

I did not notice in the rules but is it 20 shots at the same target? And they give you two practice shots? Just wondering how they would score a hole in a hole vs a miss, maybe they have steel backers.
Laying down in one spot. Tactical is a rifle class. General procedures are the same as f-class(or sling prone).

WOW never seen that before. They have guys working in pits with bullets flying over there heads?
Is that for just 600+ or do they do that for 300 too?
That pretty cool have to try that, a new world of shooting for me.

500, 600 and 1000 for sure. Occasionally you find places that do what we call 'walk-n-paste' matches at 200 or 300 yds, with no pits. They would put two targets - one for sighters, and one for record shots. Between relays, they walk (or drive) down, paste over the sighters, collect and replace the record targets, bring 'em back and score them.

More and more ranges have gone over to electronic targets such as the ShotMarker for both situations. No having to do the walk-n-paste, and no having to coordinate the rolling cluster f$ck of pit changes or liability of people down range,

Literally coming in over your head, yes.
Of course safety is VERY regimented.
Yes, 300 and down to 200 for Across-The-Course matches with standing and sitting stages.
Highpower ranges usually have one set of pits and firing lines at multiple ranges.

Where do they get the target volunteers? Department of corrections?

The available shooters are split into three relays. Relay 1 shoots, relay 2 keeps score, relay 3 pulls and marks targets. Then they make the line safe - all guns and gear off the line - relay 3 comes out, relay 1 goes down to the pits. Relay 2 shoots, 3 scores, 1 pulls. Then 3 shoots, 2 scores, 1 pulls. Etc. and so on, until everybody has shot three times. The MD has to run the line a little like a drill instructor, to keep everyone safe and moving in a timely fashion.

Sometimes, if you're lucky, they have paid target pullers available. Usually kids in one of the Junior programs (smallbore, highpower, etc.) that needs to earn money towards ammo or gear. Or you can bring your own - child labor at it's finest ;)

In other countries, there is only paid target service - shooters don't pull or mark at all. All the range staff - match director, pit boss, etc. are all paid positions as well. Their matches cost a bit more than the paltry $20-30 USD people grumble about here.

Where are you located ?

As SWD said:

Buy a used Savage F Class rifle in 6BR.

They go for $1200 often - sometimes less.

Put any 20 power scope on it.

Get a front rest and rear bag - used.

Have any one of 100 members here, help you learn to reload for it. It’s pretty easy.

Go to any f-open match. Watch, ask and learn.

You can place or even win with this rifle.

It is a blast!

Bobbyj ..........Like so many have mentioned in these comments.
Do yourself a big favor and go watch a Match and ask questions beforehand or afterwards.
Dont bother the shooters during the Match however...

This way you will get to know if this is for you or not. You will learn so much
in this one day adventure.

Thanks, I may do that but I'll probably want to shoot so might just drink it up the entire experience unless its a 2day. They do have 1 day shoots I hope. I'll try to find a 300 yard match near me next year.

I looked at that savage 6br gun that was suggested. Looks nice and gives me and idea of how my current varmint 223 compares. I've not dialed it in yet (less than 100 rnds total) on heavy rounds 69gr but with 40s and 53s its done 1/2" at 200 in semi auto slam mode. But only done a hand full of 200 yard groups with it. 1.2" to .5" not bad for an AR. I think the BC of those 69s is .3 I'm guessing the 6br is higher so wont be able to match that.

If I can tighten that up a little bit with 69grs to get closer to that 6brs 200 yard groups I might use that for the first shoot. Then if I get the bug I would probably be looking for a bolt gun like that. Need to get a single load adapter for my 223 and see if that helps any.

I'm just loading it to book specs and not trying to be super close to lands using cfe223 and xterminator and cci41s. I have rem 71/2 and cci 450 but saving them for my other guns. So i've not tried too hard to really squeak out what my current one can do.
