Set Back & rechamber 6mmBRX ???

My first season using this new Shilen 6mmBRX barrel...I have just over 1000 rds down the tube & the 104 freebore has advanced another 70 thou...Barrel still shoots well, looks decent in my bore-scope, it was a 1/4 moa shooter at start of this season on 100yd paper targets & I'm hitting the steels at 1K yds better than ever...I have a couple of gunsmith buddies I shoot with..They use the 6.5 X 284 & set-back & re-chamber every 8 to 900 shots...Is it worth it to me..[having to buy a reamer & pay to get the work done] to have these guys set back & re-chamber my barrel ??..I only paid 380.00 plus shipping for this barrel..But the idea intrigues me...If this plan works I'm going to order another Shilen pre-fit 6mmBRX to use next season..Your thoughts gentlemen?? I also shoot a 6BRX. To me, it's not worth the extra expense and trouble to set back. I typically get 2500 rounds out of a barrel, then retire it and start with a new blank. Barrels are consumables. When you get a good one, enjoy it, then move on when its life is over.

Shoot it till it is no longer accurate enough . Then go buy another . Barrels are like tires on a car , don't bother regroove tires , don't bother rechambering unless you can do the work , even then just to practice cutting procedures .

If you have them push shoulder .125" thats 2 threads on a 16 thread pitch tenon. If no threading involved I do this for friends cheap!

Don't understand why guys say just put on a new barrel?
I've had barrels rechambered 4 times and the thing still wanted to shoot.
Maybe ruff on the reamer, but its my reamer.

Agreed. Also, not sure what your accuracy needs are but I normally get somewhere around 1100-1300 rounds and I need a new one. If I was spinning them up myself I'd probably set them back but it's not worth paying a smith to do.

I have seen many barrels shoot way better after a rechamber. I usually cut off all the threads plus a quarter inch. I want a complete new throat. The secret I believe is not shoot them till they are firecracked way out. I know qjite a few that rechamner every 500 rounds for BR. Matt

What profile barrels are you using?

How many times can you set back your 1.25 barrels?
Depends on the cartridge and number of rounds. Usually twice. I have seen 30 inch plus heavy barrels set back till they were 21 inches. They usually don't last quite as long but most times will shoot better. Seen lots of aggregates won with rechambered barrels. I also saw a bunch of records set doing it, including the current heavy gun World record at 1000 BR. Matt
