Ya'll do whatever works for you. Mistakes can and will be made, no matter what your plan is. I like to have back-up plans and even then, occasionally, something gets mixed up.
I've always had a love for the .308Win family of cartridge. I have multiple barrels/rifles and every available chambering minus any wildcats. I used to reform brass a lot, so the headstamp wasn't reliable. That's why I started color coding and thus far, it's served me well.
Thus far, I've not chambered a 7mm -08.in a .260 Rem or a .260Rem in a .243Win but as I have several switch barrels and rifles, that possibly exists. So. I do everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen.
After all, 'Assumption is the Mother of all fuck-ups.'
I've since decided to buy brass stamped appropriately for the caliber. But some of that old, reformed stuff still is around. Weeding it out as I go for obvious reasons.
Meanwhile, I still find marking brass with sharpies to be useful.
