Separating brass

Ya'll do whatever works for you. Mistakes can and will be made, no matter what your plan is. I like to have back-up plans and even then, occasionally, something gets mixed up.

I've always had a love for the .308Win family of cartridge. I have multiple barrels/rifles and every available chambering minus any wildcats. I used to reform brass a lot, so the headstamp wasn't reliable. That's why I started color coding and thus far, it's served me well.

Thus far, I've not chambered a 7mm -08.in a .260 Rem or a .260Rem in a .243Win but as I have several switch barrels and rifles, that possibly exists. So. I do everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen.

After all, 'Assumption is the Mother of all fuck-ups.'

I've since decided to buy brass stamped appropriately for the caliber. But some of that old, reformed stuff still is around. Weeding it out as I go for obvious reasons.

Meanwhile, I still find marking brass with sharpies to be useful.

It amazes me the amount of money shooters spend to put a Sharpie mark on a piece of brass. Just keep brass for each rifle in separate boxes and write on the box. It's not rocket science.
Lol I know right?
$50 for a sharpie marker apparatus?
So many things I could market but think
Naw, poeople will never buy that

1000002278.jpg$50 eh?

Well you drive a hard bargin, but I might be able to accommodate you.

How many you want?

I never counted on much of it to remain after firing. Maybe in the recess around the primer and the headstamp you could count on remaining marker color.

Me neither, when I’m shooting brass over a chrono to sort by speed ( performance) I’ll mark the case heads in either blue for slow , green for mid and red for high. Later I’ll weigh those cases looking for any correlation, sometimes the heavier ones are the red ones. Etc. I may note that weight on the side in sharpie as perhaps there maybe additional information. Anywho’ If I keep odd ones separate when loading… what’s the harm ? Sometimes I find that pulling out a few unexplained make a hell of a difference.

I weigh my brass usually and then sort
But sometimes I still get an odd flyer out of weighed brass
So...........I've begun sorting my brass by

The ones I get the best groups with instead
Lol I know ....more superstitious than very scientific right
But waiting to see if there is a pattern of repeatability

I have a friend that sorts brass with a shot market at 550 yards, culling the unexplained
