Semper Fidelis...

First off, Semper Fi to all my fellow Devil Dogs. The WW2 Marines are my heroes.

Today's youth are not taught the sacrifices that were made

The very definition of the word sacrifice has changed in the last 75 years. It has changed in the last 50 years as well. Today it means that your parents are not going to get you the newest I Phone that is about to come out.

And they are sure gonna slip out when that happens, The young are over privileged and they have been thought to be softies. unacknowledging the sacrifice made for their freedom, its even sad that they don't value their freedom.

I was given this Blue Star Flag by a WWII Veteran. His parents had it displayed in the front window of their home while he was in the Army fighting in Europe in WWII. I proudly displayed it in our front window while my Marine Special Forces son was fighting in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to those who became Gold Star families. Blue Star Flag.jpg

We were told eyes and ears up and heads down. I wondered how you could do that but it didn’t take long to figure that out too.

When I was in grade school in the 40's, ( a little 2 story building) when the nuns wore their full black "Habits"...The house right next door was occupied by a family named...Everhards. One of the daughters was in class with me. Anyway...there was a flag in the window with 4 stars on it ! Will never forget that.

Semper Fi!

My grandfather was a Marine and hit the beaches of Iwo Jima, along with Saipan and Tinian. Like all of the men of that generation who fought in the war, he rarely spoke of it.

I am incredibly proud of my grandfather. He was my hero and was, and likely will remain, the most influential person in my life. He inspired me to join the Marine Corps, where I had the honor of fighting in my generations war.

I miss my grandfather and all the men of that generation immensely. And unfortunately, we need them more than ever today.

John Basilone is also one of my heroes, I don't know if they still hold his parade in NJ but it would be on my list to go see it. My other hero is GySgt Hathcock, got to meet him in Vegas, big honor for me! Semper Fi!

BTW Cracker Barrel a good place to get a Marine Corps t-shirt, got one the other day.

I have read the paperback on GySgt Hathcock twice. He didn't have a spotter next to him calling out range, wind, etc: when he was alone and took out the commanding "gook" that day. Just one reason why there was a price tag on his head. I certainly would have enjoyed meeting him as well...

Martha McCallum on Fox has been doing a series on the Iwo Jima invasion. She lost an uncle there. The unit he was in was the same one that my Dad was in, 21st Marines.

The day I flew out to RVN, I called him from Camp Pendelton to let them know that we were flying out later that day. He cried like a baby. I was never able to convince him, I was not going to fight the same kind of war he fought. I was not an 0311 and would be in a reasonably secure area, but that didn't matter to him.

My Dad was in WWII and his brother along with other family members. They are all heroes to me. Every Man and Woman who serve's or has served are a national treasure and should be respected forever. God Bless all our service member's and God Keep Them Safe.My Uncle Lewis flew a B-24 out of China and was scheduled to go home but a mission came up and he volunteered. They flew over what was left of the Japanese armada and was shot down in the sea of Japan . He never came home. I would have liked to meet him as he and I are a lot alike.

I've watched a couple of Martha McCallum's presentations on the Iwo invasion. Critics might say that she's just promoting the book she wrote on the subject, but then critics are among the pukes who're doing their best to keep our school kids from being taught the truth about WWII... I had a good deal of respect for Martha before, and a good deal more respect for her since she stood up to the anti-U.S. leftists in our country today, especially the ones in the media & education fields. God bless our servicemen & women, past, present, & future.

Gunny Basilone and Gunny Hathcock are two of my hero's. I have been to Arlington twice and both times have stopped to pay my respects at Basilone's grave and Pappy Boyington's also. I always used Hathcock as an example and had a pic of him on the wall of my MTU's class room when I was giving the snap in training class before I took the shooters to the range for qualification the following week. Another really good read is "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge.
