Self Policing at Gun Range

A club in Wisconsin I used to shoot HP matches at is members only, except for matches, but they also rent out the range to police agencies. Once one of the police agencies shot up newly installed 4x4" posts with subguns bad enough to cut them in half. Not cool. I was on the work crew that installed the posts. Not happy.

Ironic you post this. Last year I went to a range downstate with an attached gun shop. I brought 3 subguns with me.

When I went to pay, I told the lady I had papered MGs with me, they are OK to run there with permission. She told me to walk over across the shop and see the owner. He told me the same thing, don't cut my posts in half and have fun.

Some people's kids...

In our case, we have turned down police organizations using our range, so far. 1) police already have their own ranges for their training and qualifications that are paid for with our tax dollars. 2) Police groups do not like following range rules. They don't like following laws either. 3) The police organizations will not allow our club members to use their ranges.

Triple the rent. Demand a damage deposit as well.
Not for me to propose or be a part of those decisions. I am not a member there but was doing some work hours as a thank you. I don't know if their policies changed or what, if any, repercussions there were.

As a retired Chicago Police Firearms instructor, I can tell you as a group, the police are terrible shooters. Over ten percent of the force failed the yearly qualifications, some multiple times. The ceiling, walls, air ducts are all with numerous impacts. And the federal agencies that used our ranges were even worse. Too many non gun people these days. I even observed a female agent load ammo in all her magazines backwards. After she finished, I informed her of the fact and she had to hurriedly unload and reload them.

Thanks Mongo. Maybe I should make that # 4 on my list.

Most cops I knew and taught could break an anvil in a half hour of unsupervised lunch.
I used to say, a certain number of people could be left alone with a wrecking bar and a dump truck load of sand. An hour later, the sand would be gone and the wrecking bar would be bent.

Don't know how they do it. Don't want to know.

I've been around the block a time or two, and one thing I have learned along the way is you can't buy give a crap, people either care or they don't.

When you have someone that doesn't care and they have to pay a fee, now they feel entitled and they will use and abuse more than anyone to "get their moneys worth".
