Seeking info of 6mm .222 rem mag

Just bought this firearm from a widow woman. She didnt know anything about it other then its heavy and she believed there was some ammo for it. It however is not what goes to it. Looked all over net and very little to be found in the way of intel on this round. Any help would be very much welcomed.
Thanx

For a small amount of information on the cartridge see: www.reloadbench.com/cartridges/w6x47mm.html If you do not reload, you have just wasted your money because the 6x47 (6mm/.222 Magnum) is what is known as a wildcat cartridge. A wildcat cartridge is one that no factory produces ammunition for. You have to reload your own. I have one in the 6mm/250 Savage cartridge. Good luck!

Kinda woulda helped a little, if you would have said what the firearm was.

The #7 Hornady manual has gobs of loading info from 58 to 87 grain bullets.

The cartridge is also called 6X47 it was devloped for benchrest shooting. It is not the same as the current 6X 47 that some build using the Laupa brass called 6.5X47L. If you don't want it contact me. It can be a good catridge but brass is not the greatest if using Rem brand 222 mag.

sir i have a Clyde and Paul hart built 6x47...love it my load is.......75g pill....23.0 IMR4198.....my rifle shoots good !if you have to have some brass ill send you...about 20...and see if you like the caliber....jimcon516@yahoo.com...#252 537 5531

The 6x47 (Rem .222 Mag based) is an interesting older cartridge. The 6x45 (.223 based) is similar. It is easy to expand the case necks up to 6mm, from .22. You can find loading data (similar to that previously noted) on-line at Hodgdon.

Grafs (http://www.grafs.com) has .222 Rem Mag brass. The person who had the rifle should have also had reloading dies for it, if not, they may be a bit expensive to purchase.

If you get serious about loading for it, you may want to check the twist -- I believe most 6x47s had a slow twist, optimized for lighter bullets. Mine has a 1 in 10" twist and likes the 85 and 90 gr bullets.

I have a clyde hart 6/47 rem also. I shot it in competition for quite a while/
It is a fine short Range benchrest cartridge.
The twist on mine is a 14 so i'm limited to lighter bullets from 58 to 70 grs ma.
Most of those rifles have a fitted neck and need neck turned cases.
My favorite loads ar with the 65 grain custom bullets and 23 grs of 4198 , also 26 gr up of H322 Both just missing the lands
I hope this helps. have fun it's agreat case asnd inexpensive to shoot.

Appears that Hornady has made some conventional dies for the 6x47 rem

Forster and Redding may also be sources -- just be sure you don't get 6x47 Lapua dies, which may be more common.

My 6x47 (Rem) is more of a hunting/varmint rifle, so I'm using Redding dies, that I purchased with the rifle. Typically use 85 and 90 gr bullets over Varget or H4895.

I shot the 6X47 for 30 years . This wildcat was the cat's meow for benchrest or varmint , till the 6PPC came along with similar ballistics and fantastic accuracy . Redding makes dies , as well as RCBS , but if you really want the total potential of the caliber use Wilson dies . Brass is still available from Remington , and depending on the twist , it will shoot the 52gr. match bullets to a tee ! If this rifle is custom , it probably has a custom chamber . Take it to a gunsmith and have a chamber cast done on it . Do this before you order any reloading dies for it . Enjoy !

Cazador, would you share your load info using the 52gr pills?
I just bought some Nosler 55 gr BT I'd like to try in my Kimber.
Thanks,
Beruisis

This is a zombie thread but luckily he’s still around. The kimber you have- does it have the vintage 6x47 rem chamber in a custom barrel or are you looking for the newer version 6x47 lapua load data? Dont get the 2 mixed up for the sake of the archives and search function which brought you to this post.

OP,,,H-4198 is the sizzle,,,with 60-75 gr bullets (if its 14 twist stay below 70 gr),,,,.204 brass can be used by necking up,,,Roger

Put a want ad over at BRC, I suspect a few older BR guys may have dies, supplies since several shot the 6x47 years back.
Now...concentrate on bullets 62-70 grains, N133, LT32, 4198 class powders which shoot best at mild compressed levels . I'd suspect you have a 14 twist bbl.

i'd bet that the predaking is long gone by now and i'd bet he sold that rifle 6-7 years ago. surely he found a load by now since he only posted once.
