I received this wonderful message from Mike Dunia today ...
I am floored to read what you found! The names and the memories just ran over me like a truck.
My mentor truly was Clint Dahlstrom. He taught me the basics of keeping a plot sheet. I can tell you why the British and Canadian plot sheets have all those lines on them! American shooters are not taught how to use them.
Chris Petersen, was a California champion in the 1950's, lost the sight of his right eye, taught himself to shoot left handed.
Larry Wilkins was our team captain for many years, he arranged for us to go to Northern Ireland to shoot with them in the 1990's. His wife Dolly made lunch for us from their motor home, and when we had our annual match with the US Navy her chicken and potato salad was famous! When we went to England in 2000 the RAF band played "Hello Dolly" for her birthday. One year the well known rifle team "English Eight" came to California to compete with us in Coalinga, where it never rains. But it did, so we decided to have a one-shot team match at 1000 yards, Captain vs Captain, Larry Wilkins vs Sir John De Havilland! Clint coached Larry, I don't recall who coached Sir John. The scope you now have was used by Clint, but the match was won by Sir John, who had a "10" vs Larry's "9"
Johnnie Franklin great photographer, great friend! He won the Veteran's World Championship in New Zealand.
Bob Jensen, great shooter and contributor to the Palma effort.
Billy Meek, "who says a small bore Champion can't shoot high power!" Billy sure does, and coaches too.
Burt Rollins, we sure miss him! He was always good for a shoulder massage while you were waiting to shoot the team match.
