Seating Russian Primers

Bought Russian primers to try in my 6.5 WSSM 1k light gun in hopes of lowering E.S. Seated them in reamed primer pockets using my Lee Autoprimer. The primers protrude from the cases about .004 to .007 with full pressure on the handle. Measured the primers and they are the same as My Federal 210M within .0005" in length and Dia. The Federal's seat fine. Guess I need a heavy duty single load primer tool.
Anybody else having this problem? Is your E.S. lower with the Russian Primers?
Cheers, Jerry

No I can't get them in flush with my normal tool. I actually put the primed cases in the chamber and closed the bolt. Required extra bolt effort to close. This pushed the primers in to near flush but the primer is definately in firm contact with the bolt on loading these rounds. Guess I'll pull the bullets and push these primers out. Don't need an accident.

I may be able to help? first, I think ya need to qualify your cases,?) with a tool so the bottom of the primer pocket will be flat, next you need to seat the Russian and then sensitise it by adding just a bit more pressure, the Russian is larger in diameter than those manufactured in the US. I use the Lee tool to seat with and have not needed any other and it will seat the Russian to .004 below. To answer your question as to SD's YES they will as a general comment reduce you sd's I am seeing for 10 rounds stringsX 2 about 6sd and 12 fps ES's hope that helps.
I would suggest the K&M tool for qualifying primer pockets.

Clarence,

Thanks for the information. I suspected that reaming the primer pockets might help, but could not say as I have not yet used the Russian primers. Wolf is supposed to start carrying them sometime this year though I do not know when and have not tried any other sources yet.

Rick Sir:
Ya might try bjonessights@yahoo.com he would have information as to access of Russian primers. The term you use as to reaming the pockets MUST not be confused with qualifying the BOTTOM of the pocket ONLY.

I've been using the Russian primers for about a year now in Lapua brass and no problems with seating them. My cases have been worked over with a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer, and I use a K&M seater to seat my primers flush.
