I have held some of the same thoughts: partly because I really enjoy the puzzle of load development but partly because I like accurate results and the wind always opens the groups and I won’t know what due to the load and due to the wind/shooter.Coyote
Reading the wind is a talent only by experience and knowing your rifle . I'm only shooting 308 at 200 yards and shooting from a bench in perfect conditions . Never got into the art of real shooting at long distance. Maybe one day .

But consider going out in heavy winds with a good but not great load. Now the wind will dominate and become instructive and fairly challenging.
