Seating depth; screw in dies

I use an arbor-press standard Wilson seater dies for my 6ppc, 6 and 22 BR rounds, but for my 223 Remington rounds I use a Redding seater die. Not the Redding competition one, just their generic one.

Have anyone developed a technique to control the seating depth with screw in dies? With the Wilson's screw-driver adjusted depth I have gotten to be pretty good at getting my adjustments down to the .005,usually!) setting, but with the comparatively crude Redding adjustment bolt I am having a tough time. I did scribe a line on the top of the Redding 'bolt' to help me guesstimate my adjustments, but it's still a lot cruder than the Wilson's set up.

Any suggestions? I realize I might just need practice, or maybe just buy a Wilson seater in 223 Remington.

Thanks!

Buy a Wilson seater with the micrometer top and be done with it.........
You can use the top with any caliber specific Wilson die.....

I like the idea of the shims and also the Wilson seater. I think I might go with the latter, although I probably won't get the micro top. I used it before and to me it's not worth the money, I get very accurate just using the regular Wilson top. I'll have to check with Bob White and see what he's got.........

Hornady sells a micrometer adjsutment screw for their seating dies. I have used these and find they work very wekk for screw dies.

I also use Redding Competition collet die sets with micrometer seating stems, more $$$) and a Forster Co-Ax press for all my long range competition loading. To me this is the best for screw die combinations.
