seating depth - fireforming

How good does looking for seating depth work, while fireforming 6 PPC ?

While fireforming, you either need to have the bullet jammed into the throat or a false shoulder to keep the case snug against the boltface. With the false shoulder you could do some bullet seating depth testing.

You only need a false shoulder or bullet jammed if the chamber was cut that way. A PPC is intended to headspace at the neck/shoulder junction of the parent 220R case, like an Ackley. Of course being a wildcat, there is no right or wrong there, just different. You can also affect the effective headspace when neck turning into the shoulder a bit far.

I'll often do a coarse seating depth check while fire forming my 260AI, second firing I'll look a little closer at potential cbto nodes and then start my rough powder work up. By 3rd firing I'll have a narrow window of potential good load and refine from there. A new barrel has settled down by the time my brass is good to go, as well.
