seasoning new brass?

yes normally i would agree with you both BUT. i have a batch of 6.5x47 brass that i did barrel run in with and have loaded around 5 times with warm loads and they are still accurate and the primer pockets are still nice and firm.

i had another post earlyer about loose primers on new brass and thought it was because i had loaded several months in advance that caused the bullets to adhere to the case necks over time. thus causeing excess pressure.

this time i loaded just enough new brass for the weekend. after coming home found that all the cases now have loose primers and are now ready for the bin!! >:(

so my question probably should have been why the hell are the older cases standing up to 5-7 loads and i cant even get 2 out of the new brass!

the neck wall thickness, case weight etc etc is near identical on both batches but one lot is about as tough as a marshmellow in a pillow factory!!!!

I am in the process of "hardening" some 284 Shehane brass. The 284 case is a rebated design which I have been told gives the head less support and results in the loose primer pockets I have experienced. "Hardening" was suggested by a shooter of great experience whose opinions I respect, and so far I believe it is working. However, I do anneal my cases before every match so the concerns expressed by others here have not been a problem for me. Also, the 6.5X47 case is not a rebated design so the loose primer pockets you are experiencing may not be caused by the same issues as mine are.
