30X47 Lapua

Has anyone done this yet with the new brass i know there are lots out ther with the 30X47 made on shortened 308 cases 30HBR and also some made on the .222 magnum cases but has anyone made one from the new 6.5X47 Lapua Brass with small primer pocket would like to know the difference in powder load between the different cases. What projectiles and barrel twist is everyone useing now and powder weight.
I might chamber a PAC-NOR 17 twist 30X47 and see if i can push the 155 gr sierra Palma Match Kings at 3000fps or better.
I can Launch 125gr Nozlers at over 3,000fps in my 30BR 17 twist.
Whats every one think is it worth a try do you think.

Friend is doing one but is not done yet. He bought the reamer, sizing die reamer, brass and die blanks. He is going to be shooting the light weight bullets in HBR.

Bob,
Yes, many are pursuing this option. When necked-up, the Lot in my possession shortens to 1.820" prior to trimming to square the case mouths; thus is a little short of 46MM OAL. I doubt that you'll be able to get 3000 FPS from 150 Gr. bullets - I don't know a sole who has accomplished this via the various 40x45s through 30x47s in common use - of late, most have used LAPUA .308 Brass.

Not many report MVs in excess of about 2850 FPS with the 150 Gr. bullets- a very few get to 2900. The BR capacity is just about the maximum for efficiency with bullets of 125 Gr. and less. A twist rate of 1:17" would accommodate using FB bullets of up to 1.10" long; in general, this would be any weight that can be made using the 1.080" long J4 jackets - I have made excellent performing bullets of up to 150gr, seven ogive using this jacket. In general, most of the bullets base upon the 1.080" jacket will weigh between 125 and 135 Gr.
For reference, with 118 Gr. bullets, my 30BR barrels have delivered between 3020 and 3050 FPS,at 15')using 34.8 GR. of H-4198,Extreme), while my 30x37HBR chambered barrels deliver 3040-3060 FPS using 42.5 Gr. of Brigadier 3032 or, about 42 Gr. of H-322,Extreme). Good shootin'!

Hmmm Very interesting as i am achieving those velocitys with 2grs less powder 125gr Nozler BT 3025fps 32.8 grs Ar2207/H4198 the 115s are very similar but seat them .035" deeper and they have a Flat Base i doubt i would fit another 2grs into the case might with a long drop tube but would still be a compressed load will try next time to the range as i have never taken it up to a pressure load just went for accuracy and low SD.
I am running a 5 groove 17 twist PAC-NOR barrel

Hi Y'all,

A newbie for OZ, signed up yesterday, a fabulously valuable forum

I've got it in mind to build a very light and accurate field rifle to 300 yds covering from crows to wild bore and medium size deer etc.

Anybody care to predict the worth and outcome of pushing forward the neck of the 30BR by 0.1” as per the 6mm BRX to achieve better than 3150 fps MV from a 24 in barrel with 1:17 twist, close fit no turn chamber, using Lapua brass and Sierra #2120, 125 gr. SPT Pro-Hunter pills and achieve under 1/4 minute 5 shot accuracy.

In a BR rifle, is there any reason why a 30BRX wouldn’t match the accuracy performance of the 30BR with slightly higher MV’s ?

What do you reckon? All input appreciated

Cheers

Peter, check out the Wolf Pup - do a search for Al Nyhus, Stan Ware and or/ Wolf Pup - it's an extreme example of what CAN be done . . . and, as Al and Stan demonstrated this past season, it "works" quite well! R.G.
