Searching for more accuracy

Ihave a Savage model 12 s-shot 22-250.Im looking for other bullet, powder combinations that may work.Nothing has been done to the rifle except for a crown job.Im currently shooting a load the rifle seems to like really well. It consists of imr4895,nos. b-tips,win cases.fed mtch.primers. all cases have been prepped-trimming,pr.pockets reamed, flashholes deburred.Ido pick the days I shoot to see if load is consistent, all 5shot groups are at 100yds.The ave. from the last 10 targets ave. .246ctc.,and I was wondering if there was anything else available which may improve this. The factory barrel is 1in12 twist so I figured on bullets between 52and60gr. Any suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS.

If you are averaging .246 center to center, honestly I don't think much of anything you might change is going to improve on that, short of buying a Farley front rest, a full-boogie BR stock and a new custom barrel.

However, you didn't mention what stock you're running. With my Savage I did see a reduction in vertical and far fewer split groups,a cluster of three and a 2 a half-inch out) when I changed to a pillar-bedded laminated stock. If you have the basic tupperware stock, it's worth upgrading to something better.

If you already have the laminated stock, it's better to appreciate the rig you have,it's a shooter) and save the money for a full BR-type rig if you're seeking greater accuracy.

I agree. A .246 agg out of a basically factory rifle is great.
If you want more a bench gun probably would be necessary.
Once you get to shooting that well it takes a lot more specialization to get much more out of a rifle than what you are doing now.

I think one of our shooters have been using the 69 and maybe the 77 out of his Savage. He moved off or I would get more info. But try the 69 Sierra any way.

Thanks, for the info. I didnt know if the 1in12twist would stabilize anything heavier than a 60gr.because I may try my hand at some 600yd. shoots for score once I get some more shooting time under my belt.

I've had several very accurate Savages and none of them would shoot like that. I have friends with $3,000 custom rifles who would jump through hoops to shoot ten groups agg'ing .246". Don't try to get blood out of a stone! Enjoy!

I would imagine that that barrel was not a 12 twist like the posters. Some Savage rifles have a 9 twist, and these will stabilize the 69s and most likely the 77s.

I seriously doubt a 12 twist will stabilize a 69, and I know it wont stabilize a 77...
