Scrap Yard $$ for Range Pick-Ups

Made the 44 mile one way trip about 1pm. Delivered 112 lbs. mostly .223 range pickup. Got $2.40 lb. fifteen cents up from my last visit. Hit a great BBQ place with some of the scrap cash. Beat most of the early rush hour traffic home. Placed an order with Midway, cracked open a beer and turned on ABC evening news. My wife and I had a good afternoon.:)

Life id good. All the metals are going up+

Do primers need to be out? Can loose spent primers be mixed in?
At my recycling place, primers need not be removed, however, the last
bucket i took in, i also took in a half full coffee can of decapped primers.
I got $ 1.95 for the spent case with primer still in it but, only $1.75 for the
spent primers. Not complaining. Used it towards more reloading supplies
and another case of beer.

Note.....Sort carefully. They check with a strong magnetic rod. They find
just one steel case, they turn you away or offer only half price.

I guess most of the scrap yards make their bones by paying rough scrap price for almost everything they receive -- and then sorting the valuable stuff from the worthless stuff.

AND THEN, don't forget that they have to ship the stuff to a big city somewhere to get a decent price. If like me, your "big town" is 300 miles away, your local scrap prices prolly suck.

AND THEN -- don't forget that somebody in that chain of scrap processing has to get rid of the stuff that has absolutely NO value, and pay to do it.

I doubt that most of em in that business are cutting a fat hog. jd
