Scored Some More AMAX!

My hoarder buddy called this morning to say he found another 500 52-grain .224" Hornady AMAX bullets in his piles. Going to drop them off (brown paper bag left on the porch to maintain distance) tomorrow. Added to the 1,000 I bought from him originally, I have enough for a very long time before having to resort to the ELD-Ms!

I’m still mad about the 6.5 140 gr Amax’s being discontinued. I’m almost out.

I found out a long time ago its best not to rely on getting bullets that have been discontinued. I had a great load that shot really well and consistent shooting 178gr A-max's and was back to square one when they went away. I have been offered by friends (sometimes dealers come up with some) to buy more but I refuse to work up loads any more with products I cant buy regularly.

Isn't the only difference between the new 52gr ELD-M and the old 52gr Amax, their new "Heat Shield" tip??

In theory, yes. I have tried a few ELD-Ms in the same weight with no real difference, but like the idea of a bullet that is tried and true.

Haven't used them on anything but paper and groundhogs. Tiny groups and seem to open about nickle sized holes in the hogs. No real "splat" factor. Running them a bit over 3,800 fps.

I POPED A COYOTE AT 335 YDS WITH ONE OUT OF MY 223 AND WHEN I TOOK MY EYE OUT OF THE SCOPE HE WAS GONE BLOOD EVERYWHERE 15YDS RADIS AND RAN 90 YDS BACK IN THE THICK NEVER DID FINE IT

Not surprising. I think they need more speed than the .223 can give it.

A good friend of mine has a Win model 70 22-250 w/14tw barrel and the 52gr Amax and now 52gr ELD-M is his "go to" bullet for coyotes. I'm really not even that much of a Winny fan but that thing shoots like a lazy and puts coyotes lights out.

52 gr sierras put them in the dirt and 53 gr Hornady also maybe there just not for me I didn’t have any luck with them out of my 22 br either for hunting

I would love to run the 53-grain VMax, but my 1-14 twist won't handle them.

So, are you saying that the 53-grain VMaxs do or do not shoot well in your 12-inch twist barrel? I would like to know because I will have to re-barrel in a while and want to choose the best twist for that bullet.

THOSE 53GR V-MAXS WANT SHOOT IN SOME 12 TWIST I HAVE 2 THAT DOES FINE SOME GUYS HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH 12 TWIST BARRELS WITH 53GR V MAX I HAVE 2 SELECT MATCH SHILEN THAT DOES SUPER WITH THEM

I dropped all the 1 and 3 points.
