Scopes that track the best

I made a couple of runs, with his permission, of the Charlie Hood design and sold a couple of hundred of them on here a few years back. No immediate plans to do another batch but if I do, they'll be a tad wider for today's scopes and like the others, I will only offer them for Davidson bases. I may do more in the future but just not soon.

If the demand is there, I'd certainly do another batch when time allows. Terrible pic. They were very nice scope checkers. A credit to Charlie's design, not me. The reason I only offered them for Davidson bases is I didn't want the responsibility of them being put on heavy recoiling rifles. The mass and weight of the checker and a couple of 36+ ounce scopes, along with a heavy recoiling gun, it was mathematically possible to shear 6-48 base screws. Not likely, but possible. I just didn't want to be responsible for $5,000 worth of scopes bouncing off of a concrete floor. Believe it or not, I had people actually get mad that I wouldn't make them for pic rails. :(

There was another member that offered a very different version for pic rails on here. Not sure what happened to him. Haven't seen him post in a while, that I recall.
Cool project’ I’d like to find a source for light weight frozen scopes to go with that base.

For a high end HUNTING scope go with a Kahles. European's consider them the Rolls Royce of scopes. I've owned a half dozen Kahles hunting scopes many years ago and they were all rock solid and the clarity was outstanding.
You're very right Jim. Lots of people don't know much about Kahles but they are actually the oldest scope maker in the world. They are superb in every way. Swarovski bought them out a few years back and instantly started jacking the prices on them. I suspect they did so because they were a very comparable scope to a Swaro but at a much lower price. So they bought up the competitor offering a much better value in their field.

That's the one I was referring to. It's not how I'd have done it but I never heard any complaints on his either that I can remember and if it works, it works. Not sure if he's still around or not. Send him a message if you or someone needs one... or if someone wants to put a group buy together, I'd make another batch but it'd probably take at least 50-75 pieces and I'd just have to calculate a new price based on that and costs of time and materials. The market was pretty well saturated back then, I think, so I'd only be interested if the vast majority are sold first.

I bought one when they first came out quite some time ago. It's now
sitting on the Grandson's CZ 457 for bench work. One of the best tracking
scopes I've ever used. It got semi-retired as I needed more usable power.
As it is, and comparing my NF Comp against my March High Master ??
They both track without a hitch.
My brother and I are most interested in cold bore first round hits on small targets like a golf ball at 350 yards.
Both the XRS and DMR don't disappoint.
But I admit my brother is the better at it than me.
Whenever we go to the range he gets the cold bore on the money more often than not. This is where actual DOPE written data works better than any computer. At least it does for him, that's for sure. He has a few notebooks dedicated to cold bore 1st round hits for every firearm he uses. I can't argue with his results for they speak for themselves.

Edit:... forgot to add, a golf ball is 1.6" in diameter, so at 350 yards it's a little over 1/3rd moa. Not too shabby for a cold bore first round of the day.

I'm here, but I'm keeping my hobby a hobby and work, work. It's much better for me that way. In fact, I just liquidated all of my left over "Uppers".

Best of luck if you decide to make another run. Smart to have them mostly sold before cutting the first chip.

The Zeiss S3 6-36X56 tracks great but may be a little heavy as is MeOpta Ootika6. But my Trijicon Ten Mile also tracks as well and not as heavy.

the Swarovski models from 20 or more years ago, look exactly like the fixed power S and B scopes and the Kahles. superb products. then they went fancy and made very big front bell and almost all variable.

I have four Leupold VX3 competition 8.5X25 scopes that I use as dedicated scopes for four rifles that I use for four NRA competition disciplines, XTC, mid range, long range and reduced course matches. I did a tracking test with a scope checker and they tracked perfectly. Let me know if you want more details on my testing. It sounds like you want more power and are willing to pay more so this may not be helpful but it may be useful information for others.
