scopes. schmidt and bender swarvoski or nightforce

I'm a want a new scope for fox shooting. i currently have a Schmidt and bender 6x42 which is very clear and solid. It has fallen off the land rover several times without getting out of zero. I want bigger mag scope, something like 3-12x50. Could i expect the same qualities from swarvoski and light force?

I'd get an S&B 4-16x50 with the #8 Varmint Dot. It's my favorite reticle. It is pretty thin, but that's why I like it.

If I just sit and compare my Swaro 6-24 with my S&B 4-16, I can't tell a lot of difference in terms of clarity. The S&B seems a little whiter and the Swaro a little warmer for color rendition. However, when I've had them in the field for extended periods, the S&B seems to be decidedly easier to look through for extended periods.

I can't tell you about a Nightforce. One of those is on the list for a winter purchase.

I can only comment on the Nightforce. I have owned a lot of scopes, various brands, Leupold and the likes. I really like the Leupold scopes but I will have to say that my 12-42 NXS Nightforce scopes with the DD reticle is the best scopes I ever owned. I would buy another one over any other brand if I needed another scope. Bill

The S&B and Swarovski scopes have a little better glass than the NF, but they better for twice the price!

As far as ruggedness goes, the NF NXS won the US Navy contract over S&B, USO, and Leupold and if the SEALs can't break 'em nobody can.

I often shoot with a friend who has a S&B PMII, and he can get maybe an extra ten minutes of shooting over my 5.5-22x50mm NXS at sunset, but you have to ask yourself if that advantage is worth the price. His S&B cost him about $2900 while my NXS cost me a hair over $1500.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. You just have to decide which features are important to you and how much money you want to spend.

I recently conducted my own test between 3 scopes. A NF NSX 5-22x50,Swarovski 6-24x56 and a Zeiss VMV 6-24x56. The Zeiss was the best of the 3 but it was so close I wouldnt say that the Zeiss is that much better of a scope. On a resolution target the could read one more number than the Swarovski and 2 more than the NF. Color seemed to be the same on all and edge to edge on all 3 was clear. The Zeiss and Swarovski are several hundred more than the NF. The NF does have a lit reticle, more internal adj, better reticle, and a built like tank. I was thinking about getting an S&B but doubt it will be worth the extra $1500. They are around $3000 for the 5-25x56 PMII. For the money NF are the ticket. They never break and if it did you dont have to ship it outside the country. My Swarovski took 7 weeks to get it back.
