Scope ring height

Hopefully this isn't something that has been beat to death on other postings. I am putting together a tactical build with a Defiance action that is coming with a 20 MOA rail. I want to order rings for a NF 50mm objective scope but don't know how low I dare order without running into mounting problems. Anyone have experience with this that can save me the frustration of having to try several heights before I find the right ones? BTW This is going on a Manners T2A with a heavy target barrel.

I have done the trial and error method. It can be a bit frustrating with several trips to the store included.

Next time, I am going to place the scope on a level surface and prop up the rear of the scope so that the scope is level front to back. I, then, will measure from the bottom of the tube to the surface. You now know the height that the scope needs to be above the action to provide adequate clearance for the front bell. You will need to adjust your height measurement to allow for the difference in grade between the top of the action and the top of the barrel.

I haven't done this process but I have thought about it and intend to do it on my next rifle.

I'll be able to tell you in a couple weeks. I have a Defiance medium Rebel action with a 20 MOA stainless Picatinny rail from Defiance. My smith will be finished with it in a couple weeks. I am using the BAT Picatinny rings. You might want to look at them. They are aluminum and highly polished and only cost $115. They come in different heights. I bought both medium and high rings so I could try both, and BAT said I could send back whichever rings don't work for me for a credit back to my card.

heta....no....one manufactures rings are usually different height than anothers mec/high/etc....they may be close ...but no cigar...look on the websites ,,,they usually tell height fromthe base to scope C/L...gotta do the math...Roger....
