Scope quest for a Savage 93R17 BTVLSS

I've recently acquired two New Model Savages 93R17 BTVLSS (17HMR). One is Left and one is right handed. Either way the question to you is: From your experiences with the 17HMR round, what Mfg., Power of Scope and Reticle would you choose to shoot Varmints with this Rifle and Cartridge (17HMR).

Thanks for your insite in this quest!

Steve on mine I have a simple Bushnell Tac 10X with mil dots which is a good, low cost general purpose scope. Even shot 500yd steel with it, and should handle varmints well. Simple yet effective. Of course you can spend as much as you want on much higher end glass.

My 'son' now has my Sav 93-17HMR, Laminated thumbhole stock. lt has a Leupold VX3 3.5-10X40 .Mildot
reticle with really thick black 4.0MOA Lines on the outer halves of reticle. Target knobs too. Not for me. He loves it

Generally the 17 HMR is good to around 200 yards on small varmints. A variable with a max magnification in the 15 to maybe 18 power range works well. Reticle choices are subjective so decide if you’re a knob twister or holdover fan.

After several scopes that for one reason or another did not work out, I hung one of these on my 93R17BVSS.
I attempted to used the various elevation turet knobs pre selected for the .17HMR, however here in CA we must use non led ammo, I just wraped the elevation truet with white bandage tape and created my own elevation marks.

I have a 93 that I put a BSA Sweet 17 3x12 on. For a very affordable option, it is a nice scope that has bullet grain turrets for the 17 HMR. I have found that they are a little off for my rifle, but after getting to know the rifle, you learn the turrets.

I have 2 17 HMR's AND both have 4-16 power scopes. One scope is a Bushnell 4200 - 4-16 and second scope is a Pentax 4-16 Gamekeeper. I use them for rock chucks here in Idaho, for chucks up th125 Yards. After 125 yds I go to my center fire rifles. The 17 hmr serves me well and will be my go to gun until I leave the range.
Some great scope suggestions above.

I wish to thank everyone for your input on my Scope quest! Still thinking about a balance for this scope being not to big for the rifle, 150 yards shot max wouldn't require a high end magnification. But old 72 year old eyes could use all the help. Not wearing glasses yet to see, but! Would like a Hash mark Reticle in all directions to allow sudden Wind and Distance change. But not to busy of a Reticle!

I've decided to go with a:

Burris Fullfield E1 4.5-14x42mm Long Range MOA Rifle scope.

Again, thank you all! Good shooting to all of you!

I have a Nikon 4-16 Mildot (SFP) on my .17HMR. Works great. I generally keep shots at 125 yards or closer, but I've hit ground squirrels at 175 - 200 yards.

Old as I am I only have one Made in USA Burris 4.5 x 14 on my rifles. You will be well served by that unit. Enjoy. mikeinct Ps: I love the dots on the cross hairs great reticle,

I'm hoping that they are not to busy, in the field of view!

I was looking at those for 17HMR but the focus only goes down to 50 yards. I want something much lower than that for a rimfire.
