I'm having a problem finding scope mounts. I have a ca. 1980-ish Winchester Target Model 70 .308 (s/n G1380XXX). As I understand it, this is one of the last batch of Mod 70s to leave the factory with guides for a stripper clip. I used to shoot across-the-course NMC but more recently I've shoot F-TR with this gun. I had been using an old Burris 12X scope with Weaver mounts and bases (#46 & 49A), with a thin brass shim under the rear mount to give about 20 MOA of elevation. I recently purchased a Vortex 6.5-20X44 (30mm tube) to replace the Burris and have been looking for new mounts. I had hoped to find a base or bases that have about 20 MOA of elevation built in. I assume that my use of a shim under the rear mount puts undesired torque on the scope and I'd like to avoid this. I was recommended to check E.G.W.'s mounts but E.G.W. gave up, describing my rifle as "one of the odd model 70s". The screw hole spacings on the top of the receiver, measured from the front hole are: ~0.8666", ~5.063" & ~5.507".
Suggestion appreciated.
