scope mount problem

I bought a new model 12 savage with new leopold bases and burris signature rings. At 200 yards the point of impact is about 3 ft high. I tried all possible combinations of the different bushings and nothing comes close to this much elevation change. I also tried a medium height ring on the back but this went about 6 ft low so that was way to much. Ive been doing this stuff for 40 years so i'm not new to it but i am about out of ideas. Help ed k

Ed , something doesn't sound right to me . I corrected my inline muzzy with the burris inserts , it was about 12 or 14 inches low at 50 yards .lets see if I can help .
if your shooting high that means your scope is looking low , we need to point the front of the scope up to align with the bullet point of impact . lets assume your 36 inches high @200 yards is going to be 18 inches high @ 100 yards . if you would put a + .010 bushing in the front lower ring , and put a -.010 bushing in the rear lower ring set the scope in then put a -.010 in the front upper ring and put a + .010 in the rear upper ring tighten the scope up and see where your at .this should change you about 20 inches higher @ 100 yards .if you need more you can change one set of the .010 bushings for a set of .020 bushings ,installed the same way this should change you about 30 inches @ 100 . shoot it and see where your at . if needed you can go with the .020 bushings front and rear , but with using 2 sets of .020 bushings you should be gaining about 40 inches @ 100 yards .
I've heard that some of the inserts were not marked correctly . so take your calipers and try to measure them , maybe you bought a set of these mismarked ones , that will sure screw you up . one more thing . the one inch scopes have .000, .005 , .010 , .020 inserts . the 30mm scopes only have .000 , and .010 bushings . I really think if you have a one inch scope the burris rings should fix you up . good luck on this . Jim

well i tried all of the above and couldn't get near enough adjustment. Today i stopped at wally world and bought cheap weaver bases and rings. The elevation was perfect with these. I beleive i got miss matched bases so tomorrow i have to go to the big town with the wife and i will check out another set of bases. Hope thats the problem. ed k

By the way i got a sub 1 inch group at 200 yards so thats a good thing. 5 shots with a little mirage. ed

I stopped and picked up another set of bases and the front is taller and back is lower. This should fix problem. Old bases are stamped savage 10 but somethings wrong. ED

I had this exact same problem. I shimmed the front base with a piece of film negative. One piece got me enough to bring the scope down to bull.

Sadly, said rifle is at Savage right now because the windage is off by 4 feet left and I couldn't fix that.

Good luck.
