Scope Mounting Clearance Question

I want to mount a recently purchased scope on a rifle I have that I will mostly be shooting in the prone position. I only have onhand extra high rings and they put the objective bell about .5" above the barrel and this height puts a strain on my neck. Doing measurements and calculations Burris Signature Z rings in medium height would give me .040" clearance between the scopes bell and the barrel. Question..... is .040" enough or do I need to go with high rings? Anything lower than what I have now would be an improvement.

Thanks for all the replys. Scope fit without modifying caps and even has a little extra clearance. It's much easier on the neck now and cheek weld works out fine.

You might want to leave room to allow for a scope cover.

That's 1/16" which is plenty. More important is getting the proper height. I do it by quickly getting a good natural cheek weld with eyes closed, then checking ring alignment. Do it several times. Make sure both rings are perfecty centered with each other.. Then either change them or use them and mount the scope.
