Scope mount for long action model 70

I have inherited a winchester model 70 from my father chambered in 30.06. Anyways I picked a cheaper simmons 6-18x40mm scope from my local hunter store that was on sale. upon mounting the scope on the two-peice mounts that were already on the rifle, I discovered that with the scope backed up as far as it will go in the rings I need the scope to come back about another inch or two to get the eye relief I'm looking for. I was thinking that a one peice rail might fix this problem. Anyone have any input?

I had a similar issue. Went with a rail from EGW. Its aluminum (I was worried at first since I use Farrel steel bases on bench guns) but this for a hunting 30-06 so I wanted less weight. The EGW base and Burris signiture rings have worked fine.
