SCOPE LEVELS GOOD OR BAD ??

Built a new Rifle and using a heavy Varmint stock . It is wide in the front but semi-round . Shooting it today I had a problem keeping it level on the bags . My front bag has to much sand and will fix that tomorrow . Would a Scope Level help or not .

Just my opinion.
A scope level will help but not as much as a bag that fits the stock.
Much of that opinion depends on what your doing with the rifle.
I shoot short range BR at set yardages. Bought levels for most of my scopes years back.
Havent used them much. Never in short range BR.
Different games require different tools.
What exactly are you asking of this rifle?

With a semi round forend i could see where a level would help.
Not so much with flat BR stocks where the shooter sets up the rests level
and nothing changes from shot to shot.
Shooting a semi flat or a round AR type forend off a bag could benefit
from a level if you are going to look at it at each shot.

I use them on all my Prairie dog rifles. The stocks I use, old Remington 40X wood stocks, just about require it. If I were to step into the 21st Century and restock those rifles with modern Bench Rest stocks with a nice flat 3" bottom, I probably woulldn't need them.

Nice looking Rifles (the one far right looks like mine only red)
I,m going to work with the front bag today . I think it has way to much sand in it . It is hard as a rock and does not wrap around the forearm at all it just kind of sets on top ??
I have a small Level (2 inch) I use to level the rest and did check the rifle but it,s not very good .

I have not seen that the rifle being level is as important as the scope tracks level and vertical. I had a rifle that shot just fine except the reticule was canted to let the stock sit better in the shoulder and you just had to make sure that the reticule was level when shooting. And I am heavily pro level as I only own one stock with a flat bottom and it isn't even built into a rifle yet.

I think that a related subject is how a rifle is held. Many times shooters mistakenly try to use a style of shooting that is not suitable for a particular stock and/or rifle design. This is because there seems to be an almost universal, and IMO mistaken idea that shooting with the lightest possible hold always produces the best results. When a stock that has a rounded forend is shot this way, it is inevitable that there are problems keeping it level. This is not to say that scope levels are a bad idea, but if you have a good grip on the stock, shoulder and cheek it, keeping it level is much less of an issue. Another issue is the use of higher magnification settings than are needed for field shooting. We all like to turn that variable up to its highest setting for target work, but there are advantages in not doing this in the field. You will be less likely to lose sight of your target because of recoil (Having a better hold on your rifle also helps this.) and you will have more visual clues with which to judge rifle cant. At the range, if you use a torpedo level to post your target level, you can simply use the sides of the target, or horizontal and/or vertical lines on the target as references, this has the advantage of not having to go back and forth from looking through the scope and looking at a scope level. For this reason I keep a cheap torpedo level in my range kit. After I post the target, I take the time to level my rest so that the cross hairs of the scopes of my flat bottom stocked rifles are level and plumb. When shooting a round bottom stock I roll the rifle in the bag to level it to the target.

I think I found most of the problem .
The bag I was using is a cheap thing that came with some thing i bought ? It is the only bag that i have that would work with this stock . It was very hard and the rifle set up in the top of the bag not down in it . I was dumping it out i see it was filled with floor dry not sand ? So now i have it filled with sand it is soft and fits the forearm well .
