scope help

I've finally decided that my old eyes need help. I have been shooting with the lesser priced scopes, mostly target and groundhog. I've been pretty happy with the BSA 36X plat target scope, and have had no problems. But I looked through a Elite 4200 8x32x40 yesterday and the Nikon Monarch 6x24x50 and got a real education !! So, I guess it's time to put down the money for the difference. Anybody been actually using either or both ? And if so, your opinions would be deeply appreciated. I am planning on trying to compete at whatever level I am capable of, in long range,prone...F-T/R and which would be the better choice? I'm used to the 36 power scope, but I am also used to the lack of sharpness in the lesser priced scopes. I'm open to any helpful thoughts on this. I narrowed it to these 2 only because they seem to be in my price range,Though I'd love it to be able to afford a Nightforce in the same magnification), and they are the only two I have looked through. HELP !

I have not heard any negative comments on the 4200 myself, although I do not own one many people seem more than satisfied with their performance.

Just about everything is better than those BSA's as you found out...
The Monarch, or the Bushnell 4200 is a good scope, but I would rather use a Burris Signature Series or a Black Diamond if I couldn't afford a Nightforce....

Hello Reloader234
I have,5) 4200 Elites,4) 6x24x40 w/dot &,1) 8x32 w/dot.
Best scope for the money has far as clarity, you can find them occasionally between $300 ~ $400.

You may also want to look at Weaver. I had never owned one but I recently bought a 30 BR and it has one on it. It is a CT36 and I was impressed for how nice it was for what they cost. I also own a couple of Elite 4200s. A 4-16 and a 6-24. They are also very bright clear scopes for the money. A friend and I put my 6-24 4200 next to his Leupold, can't remember which model)and we agreed that the 4200 was brighter in low light conditions. I AM NOT SAYING THE 4200 IS "BETTER", just brighter, I really don't know how there adjustments would compare. Just my opinion and I hope it helps you out.
