need advice from the pros on scope choice

im seriously considering trading my shr 970 for a scope, that aside ive been looking for scopes in the $500 range, ive looked at hawke, konus, millett, muller. i currently have my monarch 4-16x42 mildot, and love it, will these other scopes ive mentioned have glass as good as my monarch? hopefully you guys can get me pointed to a decent scope with a good price. any and all opinions are welcomed including the "save up and get a good one" lol.

I prefer Schmidt & Bender,...Premier,.and Night force, but that is just me. I think given the scopes listed I would stick with the Nikon Monarch.

for that price i like zeiss,nikon,weaver,sightron,leupold...ive been very very dissapointed in Burris lately...they used to be an extremly good scope company but in the last 5yrs or so they have gone down hill in my opinion. I have heard of the scopes you have listed but have never had any expirence with them

well i also want to do some long range target shooting, so im thinking ill need something that will have a max of 20+ because i will be doing some 1000yrd shooting but mostly 600 and under.

i say this will all respect..but in my opinion any scope you buy for $500 with the intention of doing 1000 yard shooting...your just going to be disappointed. your going to have to step up to a minimum of a Sightron SIII..in your words "save up and get a good one"

Not a pro, but my $.02

Sightron SIII is a great buy for the money. A fixed 20x is close to your price point. However, I perfer my Night Force.

Stay with your Monarch I doubt if any of the scopes you mentioned will be as good. I am going to say "save up and get a good one".

You might try putting a WTB ad on this site for a 36x leupold.
They are going for anywhere from $450. to $550. I got one with a tucker
conversion & I love it out to 600 yds.

Vic Swindelhurst did the same thing, and although you will see "Tucker Conversion", some were done by Vic and were of equal or higher quality. The Tucker Conversion is a small cylinder attached to the scope exactly opposite to the center between the elevation and windage knobs on the scope. In that cylinder is a coil spring. It opposes the action of the knobs. It was done to eliminated the one or two leaf springs that Leupold had inside the scope to oppose the action of the knobs. The conversion was well thought out and does work very well.

p.s. i googled this to find it

That is rare and honest, most would have just said they knew that, when in fact they didn't!

for $500 I would go for the Zeiss.. there's nothing in that pricerange that comes close to Zeiss in quality
