Scope help needed

Ok so I have been working on loads for my new custom rifle. I have a ziess scope weaver Z rings and weaver bases. My scope is out of travel to the left but I have two full turns with my turret to the right. I am centered over the bulls eye with one load, But I have no more windage. My rings do not have windage screws. Is my action base holes screwed up?

It is likely. Sometimes factory barrels are cockeyed, but you would sure hope not for a custom job. Do your rings have the inserts? You can use the offset sets to make corrections.

Yes they have the 20 moa inserts in them now to get the elevation I needed for distance shooting.
Im wondering if I got the 10 moa insert and put it in the front ring and put it on the right side to get my bullets to come to the left , if that would work?

I think I'd get a 20 moa base and orient the inserts to get your horizontal corrected. Is your gunsmith local? I'd sure let him take a look at it if possible.

Yes he is local, Its going back to him on Monday. Something is not right. I hope like hell he didn't thread the barrel on crooked!!

This happened to a friend of mines rifle and I helped him to turn the rings 180 degrees from their current position (looking at them from the top view). It worked for him and it won't cost you anything but some time. Let me know if this works for you.

When you sit the rifle on a bench rest and stand behind it. Can you see any noticeable aiming issues? I had a gunsmith (used lightly) who couldn't index two holes if his life depended on it. Ended up shooting iron sights and had a second guy install a front sight base.

I had a windage problem also. Zee rings didn't help. Only 10 moa inserts available for 30mm scope. I went with windage adjustable rings.

I also have a Rem 700 action that I had rebareled and trued up supposedly but he would not true the receiver threads and the thing shot it right field I sent it to another gunsmith that trued the scope mounting holes and installed the larger screw holes. an it is closer but if I would do it all over again If the person doing the work won't chase the threads I will find some one else to doing it! Just my two cents worth!! RW

If you're using rings with eccentric inserts, you can split the difference rotating the inserts 45º so that they provide some elevation and some windage. The offset should work according to sin & cos. So, a 0.01 insert would provide 0.007 of both elevation and windage at 45º.

You don't lap burris signature rings. They have nylon inserts. Im gonna tear the 20 moa inserts out and go back to the 0 offsets and install a 20 moa scope rail. See where it is from there.

Is your gunsmith a gunsmith or someone with a lathe and is learning ?
A real smith would have insurance , FFL , etc . Sorry if it sounds harsh but we are a self regulated profession , if you already question if he threaded the barrel on correctly , what kind of confidence does that show ?

Yes he is a gunsmith. I'm confident in him but I'm just at a loss on thoughts of what's happened. Nothing I can do until he gets back from bear hunting. I'm hoping it's my scope mounting that's screwed up.

have you tried to turn your scope rings to the opposite side I think they are made a little offset, I had the same issue just turned my rings to the opp side and the problem went away. might work might not
