Scope for this gun ?

Looked at a Savage Precision Target/Varmint rifle with a laminated stock heavy stainless fluted barrel in 243 cal. I have a $1000 to spend on a scope. I will be doing some vamint mostly coyotes and bench rest shooting at my club. I like something in a 50 or 56 any help on what you guys are familiar with would be great. This is my first rifle.

if you are doing some varmint then the suggestion i have is a variable that gives you enough magnification for the br, how long are the br matches at your club, if 200 then a 6.5 x 20 or slighly higher is all you need.
if you are shooting 600 the you definately need something that goe to 36x

This may help-- but NSS has the Nitrex TR-0ne (look under Weaver) for only $189 --it is a 6-20 w/50MM obj -- I just put one on a new .243 build as a starter scope-- as nice as it is I may now leave it on there--very clear--super target turrets 1/8" adj--it would be nice if it had side focus but for the money this is an awsome scope--Make no mistake it is not a Leupold or a NF but --in my mind it is a $400 + scope at half price--I went back and bought another for a future build.-- you will not be unhappy I promise-and you wallet will not be as light

i personally look on gunbroker etc for 6.5x20x 50m ao luep and they are great, if a problem used, the factory warrenty is lifetime and the will repair free.

The 6.5x 20 Leupold VX3 is hard to beat if you want to spend the money. I highly recommend it.

I've had success with the new Bushnell Elite series 5x15x, very clear, holds zero, attractive price, but it's not convienent for making elevation adjustments in the field.

I like the idea of the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30X50 scope for the type of uses you intend for your new rifle. It's Bushnell's top of the line model and it just happens to be right in your price range. All the Elites I've looked through have outstanding optics. Even the lower end 3200 models are excellent. Bushnell has really come a long way in quality over the years

It gives you the low 4.5X magnification for closer up shots on varmints which is nice when a coyote ends up right on top of you after speeding into a call. Then it can give you the high power 30X for accurate bench shooting and load development or long range varmint hunting. Also available with a nice windage/BDC reticle called the DOA 600 or a fine multi X or mildot.

Also comes with a 5" sunshade for sunny days and push/pull locking target turrets that have 50 MOA of adjustment in the 30mm tube for plenty of adjustment at long range. Then with the 100% money back guarantee you can't really go wrong.

I've been seriously contemplating on getting one myself for my new 6.5X47 Lapua.

If you have some time , check the SWFA website and see what used scopes they have. They usually have a some good deals on scopes in the range you are looking for.

For coyote hunting a 3 x 9 or 3 1/2 x 10 is as good as you can do. Targets from the bench are a different story and more power is better, how much depends on range and target size. My go to coyote gun is an AR with a 3 x 9 Leupold. When calling with a friend in day lite one of us will carry an AR and the other a bolt gun set up to reach on out there. The long guns usually have a 6 1/2 x 20 or an 8 1/2 x 25 Leupold on them.

Leupold vx-III 8.5-25x50mm long range target with target dot reticle I thank that you can't go wrong with that I use it to shoot wood chucks to 1000yds great scope for under a grand.....

I would think long and hard about the 6.5x20 Zeiss. I have two and the optics are as good or better than the Leupold VX-3 series and the side focus has no lash like the Leupold's seem to have. Tom

the real german zeiss are great love them some of the best optics made in my opinion,as for the conquest I am not a fan i had tracking problems and a few other issues

Zeiss, Burris Fullfield IIs, Weavers, Bushnell elites, Sightron SIIIs, all are great. Vortex Viper PSTs are great and durable. Nikon Monarchs are spectacular glass, much better than anything else under 1k. Downside is limited elevation travel...can be solved with a canted base and/or Burris Signature rings. Or keep your eye out in some forum classifieds and you can find a Trijicon accu-point for under 1k, spectacular glass in them as well and durable as hell.
For 300m it's not so much magnification as clarity. A higher quality scope of lesser magnification will allow you to see bullet holes just as easier as a higher mag/cheaper scope. Especially if you're going to coyote hunt with it, the lower end would be handy, and having the nice glass is great for actually spotting the critters.
