Scope for prairie dogs?

I'm looking for a new scope for a .223 dedicated to prairie dogs. I prefer a second focal plane and a BDC reticle as I can make it match my ballistics. I also wants turrets should I want to dial. I have a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 with the Rapid-Z Varmint reticle and it has been absolutely phenomenal. However, they don't make them any more. I like the BDC reticles as it reduces having to dial and is quick to shoot for out to 500 yds....Just range and hold respective yardage in the scope.

What do you use and/or recommend?
 
I just put one of those on my 222 Rem, it goes to the range tomorrow. I've been shooting the 3-16 version for a year on my 20P and love it. Eye relief is exceptional.
 
As 10XSHOOTER, I also use 2 NF SHV 5-20. Great scope. I was in WY last week on my PD hunt and had the SHV set on around 8 power. My binoculars are 8 power and by having the scope set on 8 power, it's an easy transition from binoculars to scope.

I do use a higher power on occasions when it may be a really long shot, but have found the 8 power has worked out really well.

I really prefer a 2nd plane scope over the a FFP. I can't see the reticle as well on low power. I sold all the FFP and only use 2nd plane now.
 
I use the NXS 8-32 NP2DD reticle on my PD guns. I also use the Leupold VariX3 in 8.5-25 on my 223 gun.

I tried the 12-42 NXS, and the 12 power is too high to spot the dogs after I range them with the binoculars. I wanted the higher power, but it turned out to be a bad idea for me.

I have 3 AR's I built all with 26"+2" HV barrels each topped with NF3.5-15x56NXS scopes, another .204 Ruger AR build with a NF 5-25x56 ATACR (MOAR-T reticle). I rarely go past 15x with it though.

Yeah, we seldom go past 15 to 20 power, I just like the quality of the NXS glass and having the extra power doesn't hurt anything......John

If a person is dialing for yardage you can never go wrong with NF optics. I've never had a NXS, ATACR, or NX8 I didn't like. My only issue with them is I can't afford to put a NF on every rifle I own. If I could I'd even have them on my rimfires. :)
 
Sharp as you can find--really great glass--because after looking through one all day--your eye will feel like an over ripe fig when you get back to the hotel that evening--Buy bright, crisp glass, a reticle you can get along with and just know that in the heat you will have the power turned back lower than you expect
I like FFP but do hate that on the lower powers the reticle is small--but then again I never shoot at that low power so.....I can see loving either one as long as they are bright and sharp as a tack
I love my Tract Torics--Japan LOW made and amazing value--they have a 20x, 25x, and 30x ELR series that are amazing--if you look through one you will buy

I've taken a liking to the Burris Signature HD with E3 reticle. As for ballistic reticles and wanting them to match your ballistics, I feel that's chasing your tail. At what altitude, at what temp? I'd rather have good repeatable turrets, and a reticle with enough reference marks to be able to make minor adjustments.

I used a Zeiss Conquest MC 6.5-20 with the Rapid-Z Varmint reticle on the last p'dog hunt. I chrono'ed my loads and were able to map them to the reticle at 12.5x. 400 yards and in, it was a matter of range and find the appropriate hash mark and wind hold and shoot (with success). I wasn't losing time with lookup up yardage to MOA conversion and dialing.

The first trip out, I only dialed and was able to compare the results to using the BDC. The BDC worked and worked better than I had imagined. It's not for longer shots and isn't right for all conditions. However, I've come to like it and still want the ability to dial when needed. Also, this is the reason I want SFP and not FFP. You can't match the BDC reticle to your ballistics with FFP.
